Bio
Introduction
Born in 1986, Ben Ellery is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Kitchener, Ontario.
Known for a strong background in metal and hard rock genres of music, and often taking
dives into progressive or atmospheric territory, he has been recognized mostly for his work
as a guitarist and bassist.
Musical career
The early years
Growing up, music was abundant in the family for Ben. Being surrounded by vocalists,
pianists, guitarists, violinists and many other types of instrumentalists, this environment
nurtured the interest of the young boy. These instruments quickly became his favorite toys,
learning theory from within the family. As the years passed, the music magazine stacks
grew, and his interest began to focus on guitar. Often known to be studying the latest gear,
production, song writing and theory, this lead to the desire to compose and perform music
live.
Notable works
In 2007, Ben started his first band with a group of friends in a band called "It begins after death" and
was a hardcore metal group that got its sound from bands such as lamb of god and misery
signals. First gaining traction playing local shows and house parties, the band quickly went
on to play iconic venues such as the opera house, and playing the launch party for the first
ever KOI music fest alongside the flatliners, and black lungs. Eventually the band came to
an end in 2012 after a long struggle with band member changes other than the original
singer and Ben Ellery on guitar. He later went on to play for acts such as Guide Nevada, The
river of ghosts, And everything after, and Trapped in thought. His first self-written and produced album comes out this fall 2020
Looking forward
After extensive experience in bands, Ben Ellery is now focusing his efforts on composing a
full length solo album in which he will compose, record and produce every aspect of the
music himself. These works will still show it's roots in hard rock and metal, but will look to
further explore a more progressive and ambient instrumental work that
can appeal to a larger audience. The album looks to celebrate soundscapes, and modern
technology to blend orchestral sounds with guitars ranging from driving to dreamy, all the
while bringing a modern appeal with transitions to parts that blend in synths and pads and
all kinds of other instruments.
By the end of September, his first single should be posted by all streaming sites provided by distrokid
