Bio
The vaudevillian blood runs thick in this brother sister nod to their Ballroom Jazz and Big Band matriarchs. Merging the Whitney siblings experimental, postmodern sensibilities, with those handed down to them from two generations of songwriters, Bengal Lancer features dueling vocals, lo-fi indie rock, and thoughtful, anthemic songwriting. The result is a sound that draws from influences like Ella and Judy and pulls them through the filter of Sonic Youth.
Chicago's Bengal Lancer is currently touring to the West Coast and will be releasing their 2009 LP produced by Jeremy Black (related: Apollo Sunshine, Drug Rug, Deerhoof.)
Live shows include guitar driven garage with a vaudeville twist and an onslaught of DIY instruments including electric musical saws, stomp pump organs, and high-heeled double kick percussion.
