Bio

Born in the salmon hatcheries and raised by bear-wolves in the great Canadian wilderness, John ‘Freshwater’ Biscotti and Dexter ‘Kodiak’ Davies found themselves stale of ambition and fantastic of whimsy in the dank of a Belgian Winter in 2007.

Kodiak, a man-bear with a bombastic and heavy-hitting style, a voice at once guttural and ethereal, and a penchant for making asses shake, has traveled the world for centuries in search of an equal – if not in girth, than at least in beardedness – with whom to bring to the yearning masses a sound at once poignant and unheard; rhythmically dense and melodically harmonious; original and inspired.

For his part, Freshwater - part man, part machine, all fingers and vintage organ sounds and vocal chords – has long been driven by the demons within and the chaos without to create dense lyrics, sophisticated metaphor and ear-popping melodies for the pleasure and delight of all.

Together, these intrepid adventurers of sound have formed Benito Band, an organ-drums duo singing in close harmony and poised to take ears, knees and asses hostage the world over. Described alternately as Ska-Bûcheron, Carnival Blues, and Power Folk Vintage, the music these two create lends itself to experimentation on the margins of musical genres.

After producing their “Benito Band: The Two Man Gentleman Band” and “La Macchina e Morta, Viva la Macchina” mini-LPs in a cave beneath the dirty Brussels underground, the duo has gone on to play numerous and spectacular shows in the cafes, pubs, bars, parks, barges, gardens, parties, festivals, countryside villas, and Turkish bath-houses of the European capital they disingenuously call home.

In 2009, Following the release of their first full-length, independently produced studio album “Sarsaparilla Jacuzzi”, the duo has toured and played extensively in Canada, Italy, Belgium, France and the U.K. Now, faced with a 2010 full of road stories, horn sections, van emergencies and the endless beaches of summertime, Benito Band rises and forges forth into the musical unknown packing only a toothbrush and a bottle of forgotten tomorrows.

Honestly though, did you really think you'd be able to get it out of me? I swear Thibault, sometimes I wonder if you have ever even looked under her veil. Once you do, don't forget what the judge told us that time we took him to Alderwood: "Once I was happy, but the stars never lie." For shame Thibault, for shame...
