Bio

Songwriter, singer, and electronic musician Ben Kreader teamed up with producer Bryan Cook and talented group of musicians including Cold & Lovely guitarist Meg Toohey, Golden Bear bassist Jonathan Ahrens, keyboardist Peter Adams, and drummer Aaron Sterling to record new material starting in 2013. With his first release "Oceans I Could Drown" Ben debuted as Hecho Derecho - a Spanish phrase meaning "made straight". The 4-song EP featured the Cocteau-Twins inspired single "Sink or Swim" and established the moody atmospheric tone for Ben's music that evokes Peter Gabriel, Gotye, and Yazoo.

Abandoning his Spanish moniker for his second release - "Heat From the Day" - Ben is now simply Ben, and his melancholy and rhythmic music continues to stand apart with its lyrical candor, his soulful voice anchoring a pop framework of electronic, country folk, and blues. His second EP brought forward Ben's visual style with a pair of videos shot for Sink or Swim and new single Down the Line - a collaboration with the Tiffany Mills Dance Company. Building on the success of the video, Ben performed the song live with TMC at their Lincoln Center salon series concert in March 2014. His third EP "Miles of Snow" featuring the track "Midwinter Blues" - a song with lyrics from a poem by Langston Hughes - comes out in January 2016..
