"College Review"

"I just wanted you to know that Ben was an absolute hit. He was great to be around and very congenial with everybody he met. His performance was excellent, he adapted to his audience by editing many of his jokes, which we really appreciated, and he just was himself, funny. He was a pleasure to host, and it was great to have him come perform. Thanks for all you did for us, and we wish you and Ben good luck."

"Comedy Examiner Interviews Denver's Ben Kronberg"

"Comedy is like kung-fu. It's really only useful if you know how to do it drunk." Wow, Ben Kronberg is funny. I previewed his show at the Oriental theater, and thanks to facebook, I was able to sit down for an interview with him. Ben is from Denver and is now living in L.A. full time. While he rose to some prominence in the Denver Comedy scene, Ben has found success on a larger level in the city of stars. He has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and performed at the aspen comedy festival.

In a town where everybody is either an actor, a writer, a comedian, or D all of the above, Ben Kronberg has managed to stand out. After a brief tour of the L.A. comedy scene I have seen first hand how competitive it is. I even showed up for amateur night at the world famous Comedy Store. Much to my chagrin the odds of making it on stage were just over thirty percent. I fell into that just under seventy percent that didn't make it on stage. So, in L.A. you have to hustle. Quite often the funniest guy on stage is the same guy who served you coffee at the Starbucks across the street an hour before the show.

And sometimes that guy from Starbucks ends up on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and someone else serves you that coffee next time. The punch line is that if you are persistent, you hustle, and you are funny (really funny), anything can happen. Fortunately for us comic fans Ben Kronberg is D all of the above.

If you haven't already done it, check out his clip from the Jimmy Kemmel show. I believe that you'll agree with me: this is one funny guy. His witty one liners and subdued delivery have me on the edge of my seat waiting to see whats going to come out of his mouth next.

Ben will be in Las Vegas this weekend, and then back in L.A. performing next week. I for one am going to keep my eye on this rising star. I will be sure to let you know the next time this hometown kid is performing in Denver.

Fear not Denver, I will make it on stage, and tell you all about it.

Remember Denver: Life is always better with a smile on your face. - LA Comedy Examiner

"6 Questions for Ben Kronberg"

Local comic Ben Kronberg has a knack for taking a conventional joke and turning it on its head. Consider this bit of personal information he shared during a recent set: "My girlfriend started wearing the same perfume as my mom. So now, every time I make out with my mom I get totally freaked out."

Those types of twisted one-liners helped land Kronberg, who won the Coors Light/Comedy Works "Fresh Faces" contest and the Gold Crown Comedy Festival in 2005, a spot at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival this year. Kronberg will have several opportunities to showcase his unique brand of humor during the festival, which serves as as a scouting camp for comedy industry insiders. Rocky entertainment reporter Erika Gonzalez talked to the 30-year-old Kronberg.

1 How did you get into comedy?

"The idea was planted a long time ago. This good friend of my family - we call her Aunt Jamie - she lives on a farm and raises goats, and when I was really, really young, I remember her telling me I was going to be a comedian. She reminds me of that visionary lady from Poltergeist. She was communicating with animals and living a different lifestyle than I was used to, so taking her words seriously wasn't that hard."

2 So you always knew your path?

"Well, it took awhile. My last semester of college my mom bought me a guitar and I took a class, but they wanted you to play things you're not into playing. So, I started making up my own songs. Then I decided to take those songs to open mics and eventually to Comedy Works. For the first year, I just did songs, but I've built up my material where I can do one full set of just jokes."

3 You perform a song called Kitty in the Microwave. Did you conduct any research on that subject before writing the tune?

"No. It's just based on an urban legend. It's funny that people really focus on the cat in the microwave, because before I put the hypothetical cat in a theoretical microwave, I throw the cat against the wall. But it's funny that no one ever cites that part of the song."

4 How do you develop material?

"I write down every joke I can. At last count I believe I had 25 little joke books with one or two ideas per page. I have my wallet in my back pocket and in the other back pocket I have my joke book, and I treat it with as much respect as my wallet. It's gotten me more than my wallet ever has."

5 Who are you most excited about seeing perform in Aspen?

"Myself. I wish I could perform with a mirror onstage."

6 Ever been booed off stage?

"No. But I have had maraschino cherries thrown at me at a biker bar. I still have the sweat shirt I was wearing with the cherry stains on it. I'm too lazy to wash it, so I guess it's more of an incidental memento."

Bio

Ben Kronberg's star is certainly on the rise. Ben's unique style blends clever one-liners and witty observations with catchy songs that he performs while playing instruments like the guitar, casio-keyboard, and loop-pedal. Much of his material has been inspired by girlfriends, who are now, incidentally, ex-girlfriends. Since his breakout performance in Aspen, Ben has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly. Ben has also appeared twice on ABC's hit game show, Wipeout - one time as a normal contestant, and most recently in the All-Star Episode. He lost both times, but would still go back for a third helping of pain if asked. Most recently filmed his own half hour special for Comedy Central and performed on John Oliver's NY Stand Up Special. He currently resides in New York City where he creates original content for the web and is starring in a stand-up comedy based pilot that is currently in production. He hopes writing about it doesn't jinx it.

"Ben was awesome, and the crowd loved his awkward sense of humor. We got to hang out with him informally before the show as well as after, which was a lot of fun."
