Bio

Kemar Harrison aka Benks can be described as an enthusiastic, optimistic artiste, ready to conquer the world of music. Armed with exceptional talent and unparalleled determination and drive, Benks sees his musical talents being exposed to every corner of the globe.
Born in Islington, St Mary on April 5, 1987 to Maxine Gardner and Linval Harrison, Kemar ‘Benks’ Harrison fell in love with music after hearing tracks by dancehall mogul Bounty Killer being played by his father, who is also an active reggae recording artiste, based in the United States.
This spurred him to explore the possibilities of music, even though he was just a toddler attending the Roadside Basic and Hillside Primary schools.
In 1995 after moving to Kingston where he started attending the Balmagie Primary, in Waterhouse, Benks started to fool around music a lot more often than he did in St Mary. He was the lead singer of his Lincoln Kirk United Church Sunday school choir, where he got regular praises for his amazing talent.
He continued to hone his skills as a lyricist while he was a student at Jamaica College. Here he constantly received praises for his exceptional ability to spit spontaneous lyrics around his school mates during lunch breaks.
Even though the first song he wrote was a remake of Baby Cham’s Ready on the Bug riddim, it was clear that the influence of being brought up in a Christian home would come to the fore. This would eventually result in Benks applying his skills to Gospel music contributing significantly to the surge in popularity gained by his Sunday school Choir.
However, this was short lived and he eventually moved back to Waterhouse when the group split and soon after they found me writing secular music.”
Fast forward to 2011 and the singjay is making huge strides in music. So far, he has released songs like Day Off, Now, New Friends and Man a Pree, which he recorded for Kingston 11 Productions, the label he is also signed to.
He has also recorded Fi You for Vijahlant Records. However, Nuh New Friends, produced by Kingston 11 Productions, is the feature track currently being promoted. The words are definite and can also be served as a warning to the world that a new and irresistible talent will bestow upon them.
Benks will tell you that he has a deep desire to consistently produce quality music. He has set his sights on working with the best of the best both locally and internationally. He is backed by a hard-working and professional team comprising of managers Adrian Thompson and Dwayne Dawkins.
As far as the future goes Benks, sees himself as a formidable force in the music fraternity. He confidently states, “I will be very successful in this industry as an artiste and businessman.”
