Bio
Born in California, Bennett Jackson was raised in a music industry family and grew up heavily immersed in musician culture. First a jazz singer, then a cello player, Bennett took up electric guitar in high school, where he started playing garage rock and developed a strong affinity for the heartache of country music. A descendent in a long line of Mexican highlanders, the ‘ranchera’ and ‘bolero’ songs of heartbreak are in his blood and his focus soon became songwriting, in country music and beyond.
Ranging from straightforward Hank Williams-esque weepers, to impressionistic songs that could be in a Clint Eastwood film, his music presents a modern western aesthetic that strongly looks to classic country singers such as Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris and rockers such as Neil Young and Lucinda Williams. Bennett’s songs embody the traditions and longing of country music, as well as the expansive and majestic qualities of the American West and its mythology.
His debut EP of original material “Plumas County” was released in August 2010 and produced under the direction of legendary producers at New York University’s prestigious Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music (where he has a degree in record production). The follow up to “Plumas County,” titled “Ranchera” was released shortly after. Look forward to new releases in the near future and get ready for live concert dates as well, because as the leader of a fiery country-rock roadhouse band, Bennett has wowed audiences and played festivals in NYC, the West Coast, Nevada, Austin and continues to tour.
