Every now and then, a new artist seemingly comes out of nowhere and releases something that totally blows us away. One of the highlights of the new year for us was back in January, when we were blown away by a hot mixtape from Philadelphia's BENNI E. Humpty was happy that OHH's highly critical critic, Rex Stone gave her a thumbs up in his mixtape review here. Benni E is an afro panamanian female emcee quickly taking over the hip hop scene in Philadelphia. Currently, she is strategically moving through the eastern seaboard and expanding soon into international territory with heavy hitting high energy performances. She is known for spreading truth and justice due to her own life story. From early on she has known death, struggle, and the ongoing pursuit of happiness. Benni E never allows any obstacles to stand in her way, instead she uses music for therapeutic release like in Tribute or awakens the community to issues of morality and drugs like Girls to Church and Dirty Candy.
Born into a Latin and Caribbean household, Benni E grabs world music by the boat loads and incorporates them into her highly anticipated upcoming freshman album "The Oz Children". Weaving tales of evolution through technology and war into party rhythms, she sends the listener into an upward spiral of progressive thought and hard dancing.
Benni’s continuous positive reception from her peers, promoters and other artists is due to her reconstruction of lyrical hip hop into a style unique to her. Encouraged by the amount of hard work needed to succeed, she pushes through adversity and hits the stage with remarkable energy as a solo act and engages the crowd thoroughly.
