Virgin Islands native Benny Demus, infamous for being Akon and Rock City’s DJ, recently dropped his Ben In Black Mixtape, and, no, he isn’t DJing; he’s rapping, with the raspy growl of an angry, caged animal. Normally I am skeptical of prolific producers who think they can spin (Moby), accomplished rappers who think they can DJ (MC Lyte), and well-known DJs who think they can rap (DJ Khalid), so I was fully prepared to think this mixtape was going to be another, badly-executed crossover attempt, a formulaic cliché of guns, guts, and glory, that would inevitably catch on because of the Akon affiliation. Then I listened to it. About six times in a row. I concluded this mixtape is fire. I am left with the distinct impression that Benny D would hack your limbs off with a machete just as soon as look at you, because it’s All About The Shotta Dem. Once you hear his life story on track #19, Path To Ambassador, you’ll be hooked. But don’t take my word for it. Download it for free. - URB.COM

Grammy Awardwinning artist T-Pain has been blowing Australian audiences away with his energetic live show for the last few years. The charismatic artist has provided signature hooks for some of the biggest urban tracks of the last 5 years, plus released multiple hits of his own including “Buy You A Drank”, “Freeze” and “Can’t Believe It”.

One of hip-hop’s most enduring and iconic figures, BUSTA RHYMES, is widely acknowledged as one of raps greatest lyricists and performers. In his 20 plus years in the game, this certified legend has worked with everyone from A Tribe Called Quest and Dr Dre, through to Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. In 1996, Busta Rhymes released his debut solo album, The Coming, which featured the Grammy Nominated hit song “Whoo Hah! Got You All In Check”. The track marked his first of 19 gold and platinum US singles. Busta Rhymes’ run in the international pop, rap and urban top ten has extended way over a decade, from “Who’s It Gonna Be?!” featuring Janet Jackson, “Pass the Courvoisier” with Diddy and Pharell, “I Know What You Want” with Mariah Carey through to Gold Selling “Touch It” and “Arab Money”. In between making albums, Busta entered the acting arena starring in John Singleton’s hit movie Higher Learning (1995) in which Busta made his acting debut. New Boyz created a sound, slang and fashion sense that made them one of the biggest hip-hop groups to emerge from LA in years. The talented duo followed up with the hit single “Tie Me Down” featuring Ray J off the debut album “Skinny Jeanz & A Mic”. Sporting a personality as vibrant as his native Virgin Islands, Benny-Demus is globally known as an entertainer extraordinaire. Acknowledged as a first-class producer, writer, DJ, and rapper, he has stamped his own ticket to success.

Currently, Benny-Demus has been the tour DJ for Akon for the last 7 years and counting, contributing to the nightly electrifying shows, and traveling the world. Some of the countries toured include but are not limited to Canada, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Brazil, Germany, London, Scotland, Ireland, Lebanon, Jordan, Malta, Romania, Poland, Japan, China and many more. Benny-Demus is also the official DJ for Eve and Rock City. Personally he has gained thousands of fans in over 180 counties.

While it has been his skills as a DJ that has projected his success, thus far, it is his gift of storytelling that has allowed him to become a very skilled emcee. Since his days in St. Thomas, Benny-Demus has been blazing the microphone, first as a group member with the group Rock City also known as R.City and then as a solo emcee when he landed in New York in 1994. While very appreciative of the opportunities, his career as a DJ has afforded him, it has stalled his career as an emcee. Ready to take hold of the reigns and prove to others what he has known all along,
Benny-Demus has already completed his first album (Caribbean Badman) and two mixtapes, which include Load Up Music & Ben In Black, which reached over 10,000 downloads in one week.

To start off 2011 Benny-Demus released two videos titled “I Can Sell My Chain” The Atlanta version features Kissinger, YBT, & Lil Play Boii all of SOD and “Sell My Chain” Virgin Islands version featuring Kissinger, Rock City, and guest appearance by Verse Simmons. John P. Wheatley directed the video as well as several others.
