benny girL is the story of 3 great friends who spent
a great deal of their childhood together, discovering chapter after chapter
of rock N roll history. Suburban weekends in New Jersey were spent in garages
crafting ear piercing renditions of Purple Haze, Southern Man,
& How Many More Times. Their influences all melded together
in such a way that any rehearsal would go from the Yardbirds,
to Nirvana to the Cure to the Clash to Syd Barret, to Bob Marley to Bob Dylan
and back. Perhaps the pinnacle of success those years was a show-
stopping cover of Santana?s Soul Sacrifice to close up their senior year talent show.
After high school they moved to Israel for a year and lived on a kibbutz.
By day they would rock out in an abandoned underground bunker and by night
debate life?s great mysteries ? where is Syd Barrett now, who killed Kurt?
Was Ringo truly great or just lucky? They shared a room the size of a Marshall amplifier-
blasting Hendrix and walking around the kibbutz with their ponytails like they
were the US ambassadors of rock N roll. In the following years, guitarist Lior moved to
Denmark where he was in and out of a couple of Britpop projects, while Amit, and Paul,
continued playing together in their dorm rooms and at small clubs.
By the spring of 2003 Lior had moved back to the states hungry to get
serious with his music career once again. Concurrently Amit and Paul
were spending their days in Brooklyn unknowingly writing the first
batch of songs that would be benny girL?s beginnings. After the first rehearsal
together as a trio, the verdict was in and a band was born. After years together and away, years of drinking in the fruits of older influences coupled with a more critical discovery of bowie/blur/radiohead/beatles/supergrass the outcome was one organism,
one triangle, - benny girL. The recent addition to the band, Matt Milton
on bass takes the band into a new territories as they continue to win over
audiences playing @ venues in and around the NYC area including a regular spot at Sin-E and Mercury Lounge.
