BennyK2
Everyone has heard the cliché phrase you can’t judge a book by its cover and this applies doubly for Benny K. Upon first glance, Benny K appears to be an average, young, clean cut white kid from the burbs trying to chase a dream. However, Benny was born in Bogotá, Columbia and adopted as in infant, by a working middle-class family from Staten Island, NY. Growing up, Benny was exposed to his parent’s musical taste, listening to classic soulful artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon, Donnie Hathaway, etc. Always a natural signer, Benny decided to turn his talent up a notch at age 15 by joining the high school choir and signing up for hip-hop dance lessons with Starstruck dance school. His love of performing fueled Benny to write his own songs in hopes of moving audiences with his original works. To do so, Benny looked to artists like Musiq Soulchild, Usher, Tyrese, Tank, etc, for guidance and inspiration. Within a year Benny’s true colors were beginning to shine and he began singing solos with his choir and winning national dance competitions for Starstruck. At 17, he teamed up with a local production company and completed an EP entitled the Prelude which gained instant local success and popularity. The Prelude, in essence a pre demo, served as stepping stone through which established producers throughout NYC were shown Benny’s writing and vocal ability. With no budget, Benny’s talent alone was able to impress producers enough to let Benny demo their beats pro bono. With his new material at an industry standard, Benny is now equipped with the ammunition he needs to establish himself as a true R&B powerhouse.
