Bio

Having been the sideman for many major artists over the years, Toronto-born and based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ben Spivak could not have decided to come to the forefront at a better time. In an era when musical creativity and innovation seem to matter more and more, Spivak's self-titled debut album is Radiohead meets The Band. Kings of Leon meets The Black Crowes. Classic meets contemporary.

After attending the prestigious Humber College of Music, Spivak kick started his successful career as a sideman working with many major artists including hip-hop star K-OS (Juno award winner, Grammy nominated), country singer Johnny Reid (2x platinum, multi-CCMA winner), and Juno nominee Alyssa Reid. He’s toured and performed at major festivals in North America, Australia, South Africa and Europe, including Virgin Fest, Good Vibrations Festival and Calgary Stampede and has shared the stage with the likes of Kanye West, Cypress Hill, Coheed & Cambria, Gym Class Heroes, Dashboard Confessional, Theivery Corporation, Calvin Harris, Pharoah Monch, among others. He's even performed on the Juno Awards and David Letterman.

When asked why he decided to make his own album, Spivak candidly replied, "It was time. After being on the road so long with other artists, I decided that this had to become my priority.” To say he was hands-on in the making of the album almost seems like an understatement. Not only did he write all 10 songs on the CD, but he also played most of the instruments including organ, piano, bass, guitars, glockenspiel and the melodica. "I wanted to make a creative, artistic and accessible record," he says. "I feel like I've succeeded."

Recent accomplishments include headlining Belleville, Ontario's Hot 97 Habitat for Humanity fundraiser concert, as well as having 2 songs (High and Be Mine) chosen as featured songs in the upcoming independent feature film, "The Long Weekend."
