Ben Steel was formed in 2000 by Gerry Castle, John Denomme, and Kevin Taylor. John and Kevin are long time members of the great acoustic/folk/traditional/Irish/accappella/ group, The Balduck Mountain Ramblers. Gerry joined the group as a part time/substitute member in 1998 (?). John, Gerry, and Kevin realized they shared a love of traditional country, bluegrass, rockabilly, and other American roots music. Ben Steel play mostly acoustic instruments, but occasionally a pedal steel and electric guitar show up.
A Ben Steel set is a cornucopia of American traditional and contempory roots oriented music. Our influences include: The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, George Jones, Bob Wills, Robert Johnson, Webb Pierce, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Rick Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle,
Donovan, etc.
