Ben Wright

Honesty, sincerity, passionvalues that are as much driving forces in his life, as they are pervasive themes of his music.

A native Pennsylvanian, Ben Wright was born into a family connected through music. From his grandfather who traveled with the big bands of the 30's and 40's, to his guitarist-playing father and piano-playing mother, music was infused into Ben Wright's soul. He started playing piano at age 3, under his mother's tutelage; then, in grade school came instruction on the sax. But, it was the guitar, which he has been playing for the past 13 years, that speaks to him most clearly and deeply.

He was accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he studied film scoring and performance in guitar for two years. Since that time, he has been arranging, writing and performing his own music first on the East Coast and more recently on the West Coast from his new Los Angeles homebase. Since arriving he has been showcasing his original work at local festivals and clubs, as well as performing with the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque and has collaborated with Ivanopolis De Prume from White Zombie and Healer, and now explores soundscapes with Mass Ensemble.

Folk and jazz ground his style, but originality in his melodies and intensity in his lyrics define it. His voice and songs have been compared to British singer-songwriter Nick Drake. And while there are similarities to his music and his journey to "be popular without having to sacrifice ones authenticity," Wright is a different artist in a different time.
