Ben Wright-Smith is a musician who knows how to execute a gig. With charm and warmth, Wright-Smith invites you to take a journey with him through tales of Spanish gypsies, moonlight bandits, thieving gangs, outlaws, sultry affairs and forbidden women. His songs, which have an upbeat folky appeal, are bathed in sensuality and soul. Flirtatious lyrics are matched with a Spanish flair, enabling an eclectic mix of blues, jazz, rock and roll and folk. When you are watching a set, it is almost as though you are listening to one long mythical tale, as he gives such life to the characters in his songs. Lyrics and melodies compliment each other harmoniously, producing vastly vivid imagery for his audience. While he sings with confidence and expression, you are swept away to far off lands, making the music all the more enjoyable.

Being fluent in Spanish has certainly had an influence on Wright-Smith’s music, as he incorporates the language into some of his songs. Wright-Smith’s duelling acoustic guitar and harmonica is backed by his band, which include Toby Bender on the drums, Daniel Spiers on the double bass and Jesse Williams on piano, organ, piano accordion and guitar, thus, the band is transformed into Ben Wright-Smith’s Nowhere Quartet.
