Bethany and the Guitar

Smooth vocals, ukeleles, guitars, mandolins, and songs that stay in your head for days - all describe up and coming Bethany & the Guitar. Having sung in front of crowds since 15, Bethany Parks fronts the organic group made up of older brother/producer Kurtis Parks, Nick Welsh, and Sarah Parks

There isn't much to say when it comes to Bethany and the Guitar. Bethany is eighteen and makes the best kind of music out there-music from the heart. Combining soulful vocals, Indie Pop guitar, and pumping drum machines, Bethany and the Guitar has been a hit with listeners from the start. Nearly every song off her self-titled debut EP hit the “hot music list” at well known indie music site,, and her presence online at Myspace and LastFM has been growing steadily since the late February release.
Behind the whole project was the inspiration of her older brother Kurtis Parks, who produces and co-writes much of the material. “It’s the kind of sound that was made for the Ipod. Like a soundtrack to life, where you can’t help but smile when you listen,” says Kurtis.
Bethany and the Guitar has a contagious new sound, blending all the best parts of Colbie Caillat, Brooke Fraser, and Ingrid Michaelson. Bethany just a sophomore at Virginia Tech where she has captured audiences in coffeehouses and anywhere else she could set up a mic and guitar.
Bethany says it best herself – “I want people to know that the music was made from scratch. It’s homemade, and real. It’s all me and Kurtis, just creating.” In a world of fake, autotuned chaos, Bethany and the Guitar is the jam.
