Bethany Geddes

Bethany Geddes

 Hanover, Ontario, CAN
BandFolkPop

A "Bittersweet Popsicle Love" style of music, that feels as if folk, pop and classical decided to sit down in the backyard and have a tea party.

Biography

Since first playing the piano at the age of ten, Bethany Geddes has been diligently practicing and performing since. Having studied classical piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Bethany went on to further her musical study at Wilfrid Laurier University under the direction of Joseph Ferriti, a classical pianist who has performed throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. She also studied under the direction of Jason White, studying Jazz theory and piano technique. However, since writing songs from the age of fifteen, Bethany has morphed her love of classical piano repertoire with her love of creating and has come into her own style of music, classical-folk-pop. She has performed at many locations around the Waterloo area including regular performances at The Shops and Button Factory. She has since moved to Toronto to study at Seneca College in the Independent Music Production program and continues to further her study of the piano and her love of composing.

Lyrics

Sweet Low

Written By: Bethany Speechley

My nose is runny
And my throat is itchy
And the doctors saying
It's time for sleep
And my head is hazy
And the days been lazy
Sitting beside you and drinking my tea

I don't need no medication
But the doctors in
And I don't need nobody telling
Me what to do and
I'm not gonna take those crazy pills
When all I really need is you

Tea for two or two for tea
You make a cup for you
And then you make a cup for me
And my voice is something scary
You say it's endearing
I think you're lying but you're,
You're lying for me

I don't need no medication
But the doctors in
And I don't need nobody telling
Me what to do and
I'm not gonna take those crazy pills
When all I really need is you

And in the morning light
When the time is right
I'm gonna tell you I've been falling for a long time
In the morning light
When the time is right
I'm gonna tell you that I love you
In the morning light
When the time is right
I'm gonna tell you I've been falling for a long time
In the morning light, when the time is right
I'm gonna tell you that…

I don't need no medication
But the doctors in
And I don't need nobody telling
Me what to do and
I'm not gonna take those crazy pills
When all I really need is you
I don't need no medication
No heated blankets and no isolation
I don't need no cough-syrup, no
It's not sweet and it doesn't hug and say hello
I got a bad case of the sniffles it's true
But all I need darling is you.

Painter

Written By: Bethany Geddes

Verse:

Perfect silence, with a twist
Stained carpet that can't be cleaned
Hearts that break but don't fully mend
the remedies of yesterday's trends
Lost and found for the weekend
pearls just hanging by a road
long phone calls that end in turmoil
Todays the day I used to know

Chorus:

Oh Painter
Will you paint my picture somehow?
Cause I'm a liar and a thief
a fraud with a dream
and I'm, I'm going down
Oh painter
will you paint the secret in my curves?
Will you unbutton my buttons?
slowly quickly, slowly now

Tired, but fully wide awake
walking but wishing I could run
see the signs with the mixed up meanings
I feel lost, maybe I am lost
waiting for someone to catch me
I just need to learn how to fall
tired eyes that never want to close
and cherry lips that just never know

Chorus

I want to close my eyes
I want to sleep tonight
I want to listen slowly to this rainy hour
Will you paint me in grey
and then shade away
will you listen slowly to this rainy hour
I want to close my eyes, sleep tonight
listen to the rain on the window pane
I want to close my eyes, I want to sleep tonight
so will you shut off the lights?

Sing

Written By: Bethany Geddes

Do you ever wonder what it would be like
not to live on the side lines of life?
Not to shiver in the face of a nightmare?
Not to scream in anger at the blank mirror?
the most loved, will be the most missed
your ghost will live always on my lips
you kissed me all night long
kissed me till you were gone

Chorus:

Sing sing darling, I will sing darling
I'll sing for you and I'll sing for love
sing sing darling, I will sing darling
I will sing for you

Do you ever wonder what it would be like
just to say what's on our minds?
Not to worry about mentioning the future
not to silently run away from disaster
my most loved, my favourite kisses
if you could have only just read my mind
but it's time you know
that you gave those, those three words a home

Chorus

And the matter of it all
sometimes we need to remember love
and just because you're gone
doesn't mean so is our love
and the sun rises in the east it sets in the west
our pocket watch isn't broken it's just been switched
I'm moving forward and you're standing still but
you taught me how to love and you taught me how to live
