from Betsie's diary.... after a couple of years of ungratefully wondering what i might be doing in this paradise called los angeles i decided to visit my sister in japan for a few weeks. after a long day of exploring shibuya and other over-crowded concrete blanketed areas of tokyo i came back and decided to play a little guitar. being the jet-lagged genius that i was, i turned on the "light" which turned out to be the "fire alarm." setting a siren screeching through all four floors of my sisters building, i nearly had a heart attack. after each siren had been disarmed by brother in law, who later told me that if i were a guy he would have beaten me up (jokingly of course), i went for a walk to forget about the mess that i had made... where i wrote the song entitled "Japan." it's a love song believe it or not. so i guess that's how Diary Thief started. when i got back to Venice, CA i called a friend, Bobby Manila, to help me finish writing the song. along came an album's worth of songs. presently, we're working on an EP with engineer Matt Laws and a new band who includes bass player Matt Liknaitsky from Ruled by Venus. partially recorded at the legendary 4th street studio as well as Laws' home studio. musical influences are boston rockers the pixies, lemonheads, juliana hatfield, and inescapably the smashing pumpkins... don't expect to hear them. i'd tell you more lyrical influences but this isn't really my diary and i can be a bit secretive.
