Bio

After completing a 14 country, 200 show world tour with her last cd, international prize winner, „The Honeymoon is Over“, Bettina Schelker announces the release of her next project, „Another Strum“. This release is a combination of classics and originals, all with a common theme. Homesickness. While on tour in Australia, Schelker decided to develop a cd focusing on the behind the scenes loneliness an artist feels while on tour. The flip side to full houses and encores, is packing up your gear, long after the crowd is gone, and heading for an empty hotel room.

Also featured on this LP, is the „Anti-Doping“ anthem, „Dear Marion Jones“. Schelker, former internationally undefeated, Swiss National Boxing Champion, composed this song out of frustration with the state of international sports these days. „Dear Marion Jones“ stresses the point of „What’s the real winner’s name?“ when one uses perfromance enhancing drugs to cheat their way to championships. This thought provoking and motivational song sends a clear message to the youth that holding your head high, with the knowledge of having competed fairly, is what makes you a real winner.

This is Schelker’s fifth CD release as a solo artist and fifth release on her self-owned label, foundagirl records. She has toured with and opened for internationally recognized artists such as Chumbawamba, Van Morrison, Hanson, Barclay James Harvest, Rihanna, DJ Bobo, Marla Glen, Patrice Pike and many more. She has received nods on both the Swiss and German charts (Swiss Charts and Liederbesten Liste Germany ) and was the 2007 Grand Prize Winner of the John Lennon International Songwriting Contest in the category „Folk“.

Bettina Schelker is not only a singer/songwriter, athlete and record label owner, but she also owns and manages a private bi-lingual international school with focus on music and sport. The civil rights activist lives in Basel with her partner and professional basketball coach, Ina Nicosia-Schelker and her dog Jeffrey. Schelker is endorsed by Ibanez electric guitars, alvarez acoustic guitars, AER amps and Heidi.com clothing.
