Bio

BETTY is the original pop rock band fronted by Alyson Palmer and sisters Elizabeth and Amy Ziff. BETTY performs wildly memorable and boundary-pushing live shows all over the world. Over two decades, their intricately layered “raw honey vocals” [Backstage Magazine] have been heard so often on albums, radio, television, film, commercials and at political rallies that their music is known by many, even when the name is not so familiar.
Fierce Elizabeth (vocals, guitar), funky Alyson (vocals, bass) and funny Amy (vocals, cello) are the songwriters and arrangers. At times, their onstage banter between songs adds a dizzying and hilarious dimension to their live shows, ensuring that no two of their one thousand performances have ever been the same. For the past decade, joining the musical mayhem onstage are guitarist Tony Salvatore and drummer Mino Gori.

“As thoughtful as [they are] fun… their harmonies are gorgeous.”
Bruce Weber, New York Times

“Lively, candid, funny and electric.”
Donald Lyons, New York Post

“Joyous, humorous and entirely engaging”
Robert Dominguez, New York Daily News

“They are hot! Forget Destiny’s Child, BETTY are the real survivors.”
Entertainment Weekly

PRESS RELEASES

We are excited to introduce you to Bright & Dark, the band BETTY's first album in more than 3 years. The album features 13 new songs written by Amy and Elizabeth Ziff and Alyson Palmer, and features collaborations with Kate Pierson of The B-52's. Executive Produced by David Maurice (Garbage, Kerli) this is the band's eighth and most accessible album.
Sparkling melodies and personal lyrical insights dazzle throughout Bright & Dark, an authentic and confidently delivered statement from one of contemporary music’s most skillful and creative forces. The highlights are rich and plentiful including the alluring, lounge-pop groove of “Cinderella”, “Back It Up” a rump-rocking slice of funk and Riot Grrrl urgency, the Joan Jett gets sanctified thump and wail of “Jesus”, and the beguiling, “Raw”, a vulnerable, emotion filled torch song, just to name a few.
BETTY first burst onto the music scene with their legendary live shows in the late 80's. Their debut album Hello, BETTY! was produced by Mike Thorne ("Tainted Love") and sold quite well, earning them Entertainer of the Year and Best New Artist awards. All told, BETTY has sold tens of thousands of albums worldwide, and has won numerous awards, including two Emmys and two BMI Career Achievement Awards. They have appeared with some of music’s greatest artists including James Brown, Roberta Flack, Bonnie Raitt, The Indigo Girls, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Alanis Morrisette, Cyndi Lauper, Peter Paul & Mary, and Sweet Honey In The Rock, among many others. They have also appeared in numerous films including Life With Mikey, It's Pat, The Incredible True Adventure of Two Girls In Love and dozens of television shows, including The L Word, for which they wrote the provocative and polarizing BMI Award Winning Theme Song.
Bright & Dark is the work of artists who have reconnected with the essence of their creative gifts after a long, soul-numbing journey through illness and recovery. "Bright & Dark reflect the story of how our musical family grew stronger through Elizabeth's devastating breast cancer battle,” said Alyson. “It was such a struggle through the deepest dark any of us had ever known. But as she grew stronger, we found humor in the oddest places and inspiration in every bright new day. As artists, we opened up to each other with new vulnerability and shared core truths that resonate through much of the album. As friends, we forged a deeper bond. I feel like we have finally made the album we were capable of and that would delight all our fans.”
