"Mona, All The Queen's Men, Mercy Beat, Betty Finn"

...The highlight of the evening arrived when Betty Finn took the stage to a very excited crowd eager to finally hear the headlining band. During the evening I heard numerous people say that Betty Finn was the best band in Providence, and having never seen them live, I was excited at the prospect of seeing a different kind of band than the noise rock that usually permeates the Providence rock scene.
Betty Finn drifted through 11 songs, each one different and each one possessing its own appeal. For the most part , their songs possessed a downtempo felling, sometimes vaguely regae sounding and occasionally possessing abaic indie rock charisma. "Abound," like many of their songs featured multi-vocalists, but with Chelsea Cowser assuming most of the lead vocalist duties. Cowser's voice fit the mood perfectly being delicate and resilient at the same time. At times, the girls used three girl harmonies which gave the songs much so much more body and made it all the more pleasing.
The only cover Betty Finn performed this evening was a Luscious Jackson song called "Mood Swing." A cover like this was not surprising considering that Betty Finn embodies a lot of what Luscious Jackson were doing with their music. Betty Finn usus mostly the same soret of instrumental setup and employs the funky basslines and jazzy drumming styles. Betty Finn's fantastic performance and their musical presence in general, reall turns a corner in the Providence music scene. Judging by their performance, they have a good deal of talent between the five of them and a rabid fan base that will propel them far beyond local notoriety. - Northeast Performer Magazine November 2002

Bio

Betty Finn plays melodic alternative music that rocks hard and always leaves the listener satisfied. Their original sound--featuring tight vocal harmonies and provocative guitar, keyboard, and rhythmic hooks--draws impressive crowds at elite Providence nightspots like the Green Room, Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, The Met Café, and the Century Lounge. In addition to their vast experience playing headline gigs, Betty Finn has opened for such singer / songwriting luminaries as Jewel, Juliana Hatfield, and Kelly Deal of the Breeders.
The music of Betty Finn can be best described as their own style and sound, absolutely original. Their four part harmonies will take you on an emotional rollercoaster from soft sweetness to emotional angst filled screams. Michelle's almost psychadelic bass lines drive the songs. The emotion filled vocals encapture you with four singers grabbing your attention, and always captivating you in their live performance. Shannon's hypnotic keyboards envelope every space in the room while Jessica and Chelsea jazz and often dissonant guitars play off each other, both taking lead and rhythmic responsibilities. Their songs bring you into feeling that dirty little feeling of heartache with lyrics that grab you. The heartache is real as is their dedication to music.
