Asheville-based band Bex proves that death and love can be alluded to lyrically without directly mentioning them. They also understand that musicality can single-handedly construct a dreampop landscape with minimal pop reference. Their single, "Hope You're Warm," is a candid portrait of time and memory. It’s a song that fuses rock music sensibilities with a mention of East Coast-indie influence. Where their sound really wins is in the close attention to detail, patience held tightly in the rhythm, and the lyricism written into the guitar parts.
In a way, Bex tries for a sentiment that’s easier for the listener when left unnamed. This could be attributed to an obvious impression that the Asheville rock and roll scene has made on them, the sound of their city’s roots made visible by brute force. The lyrics allude to death by making visitations to the past, meditating with prosaic flair on what no longer stands to matter. There's little there to suggest that it has to be romantic, but Bex likes to leave things to the imagination. They seem to suggest that when tasked with focusing on a feeling, the memories that are conjured bring back themes every person can connect to. - Melted Magazine

Asheville’s BEX bring us back to the sad stuff with the lead single from their upcoming EP Don’t Mess With Bexas. “Hope You’re Warm” was written in the wake of and based off the experience of losing a friend: the grief, as well as the regret. Direct lyrics such as “Lights flicker and doors creak / I think it’s you telling me / You made it through”, “Wish you warned someone / Wish I had replied”, and “I miss my friend and I’ll see / Or hear your voice again someday” hit hard, and the sound exists somewhere between the land of dreams and reality, active and clear enough to imbue the surreal aftermath of a loved one passing with unavoidable, unmissable devastation. - Counterzine

Still working on that hot first release.

Asheville, North Carolina's BEX is the embodiment of "all that is dreamy" —Melted Magazine.

The debut EP, "Don't Mess With Bexas" from the dream pop/indie rock trio conceived by frontwoman Rebecca Vines fuses rock sensibilities with a mention of East-Coast indie influences. Having shared bills with names like Snail Mail, Good Morning and Elvis Depressedly BEX has proved their dynamic abilities on stage to now be paired with their versatile 6-track release.

Throughout Don't Mess With Bexas, Vines' evocative vocals pair with lyrics alluding to the bittersweet nostalgia of growing up and the delicate experiences that come along with that evolution. These songs operate as a timeline of events over the past half-decade of Vines' life, and BEX hopes for the collection of songs to act as a mode of catharsis for listeners alike. BEX's EP release show will take place at The Mothlight in Asheville, NC alongside groups it looks sad and computer science.
