Beyond The Calling

Beyond The Calling came together in 2008. We started off as a high school studio elective in Evangel Christian School. Our school was having a Christmas program and we wrote a song for the program called Spiritual Love. Joaquin, Luis, and myself Ryan originally wrote a cypha but a mutual friend Melanie heard the song and laid down the hook. The song was a hit and we were asked to minister at Christ Tabernacle's Aftershock. I then came up with the name Beyond The Calling. God took 4 different young people and put us together and he gave us one purpose. Since then we have opened up for the Ambassador @ Sun Exposure 2008, opened up for Shachah @ The Aftershock. We have Co headlined a show with Magellan and one of our rappers Luis opened up for R-Swift @ East Side Tabernacle.

Musically we are very diverse. We have a wonderful singer who has a Jazz background and has a huge voice for a small girl. When it comes to the rappers Luis style can be defined as really east coast, gritty, battle rap due to his upbringing on the Lower East Side. Joaquin's style is very East Coast hip hop and very lyrical. Ryan (myself) has a distinct style inspired by East Coast rap, it is lyrical and has influence form the song writers of the 60's. We put these styles together in a cohesive style and sound. When it comes to the depths of songs we get deep in our Word and love to challenge believers as well as appeal to those who haven't heard the Gospel. We can reach a wide audience due to our different backgrounds. Melanie can reach the ladies, Joaquin and Luis both are very capable at reaching the streets and the church, and Ryan appeals to the lonely stoner and the backslider. Yet we are not limited and can each get out of our comfort zones musically.
