Bio
A true ATLien, Hughes has been making music since late 2006 and first gained fans in '07 after performing at his high-school pep-rally in Dallas, Tx. His song "Ridin" had became the soundtrack of the school's morning news program and helped him earn 110$ the first time he sold cd's. The death of his mother when he was 15, made him realize how precious and short life is, so he went to music as his getaway. Hughes got his first taste of airplay in 2010 with his single "Friday Nite". Shortly after, he released his first sponsored mix-tape "Status Graduation" which was hosted by DJ Smallz. Due to poor planning the moment was short lived. Nonetheless, it was the taste Hughes needed. He became the front man of a 6 member group called "GMC", writing a vast majority of hooks and song concepts. The group produced one project and did a small tour of Memphis and West Arkansas before splitting up in mid 2011. Hughes moved back home to Atlanta in early 2012 to work closer with his brother who produced "Friday Nite" and several GMC records. After his father was in a work related accident, Hughes relocated back to Dallas to be closer to his father. The time allowed for immense self reflection. As a result, he dove deeper into songwriting, sometimes writing 4-5 songs a day for a 5 month period. In April of 2013, Hughes visited New York City for the first time and was able to tour the city of one of his rap idol's, Jay-Z. "The energy in that city explains it all. Atlanta is home and I am forever grateful for it, but the vibe of Time Square at 2:30 in the morning gave me life. It made me much more hungry, and I am already a starving artist. I went back south with a new mission." The new material clearly reflects this work-ethic, while still featuring Hughes' southern charm and wit. "I grew up listening to Sounds of Blackness, Prince ,and R.Kelly's at home. At the same time, T.I , Jeezy, Hov and Kanye in the streets. And I've always been a poetry buff, especially a big fan of Langston's, which is why I changed my name from Yung Staxx to B. Hughes. So with me and my music, you have this melting pot of beautiful voices singing of desire's meshed with crazy flows about ambition, sprinkled with an overall message of hunger & fight."
