Brittany “B. Hummingbird” Francis has been a force in the music scene of her hometown Savannah, Georgia for many years. Often noted as a local superstar, Brittany has many awards praising her crafty and unforgettable performances around the southeastern region. A recent highlight of Brittany’s career includes winning in the finals of a local musical competition deemed “I Am Music.” She was given the opportunity to meet with record labels as well as promotional items and studio time. For Brittany, this newest accomplishment has been used as her stepping stone to showcase her musical talent outside of the comforts of her hometown.
Brittany Francis’ career started as a child, humming tunes along with her grandmother. Her grandmother would sing to her as a child and she followed in as the background. However, it was not until primary school that Brittany discovered her voice. “I didn’t start noticing my voice until I was about eight or nine years old,” she explained when asked about singing as a child. Brittany was very active in chorus while in elementary school, which is where she made the discovery that would be the primary focus in her life. Fast forward 14 years later, and she has continued to improve on her craft.
These days, Brittany has developed her own sound in what she describes as “universal music.” She does not care to be stigmatized in a specific genre. People have classified her music as “Neo- Soul” bringing attention to the contemporary R&B sound that floods many of her songs. Contrary, Brittany suggests her music has many different sounds, from ballads to upbeat party music. One in particular, “All of you” is a ballad that describes a guy totally devoting himself in a relationship for the sake of love. If you skip 5 tracks ahead, the party jam “Everytime” emerges in an upbeat tempo. Brittany sings simple songs about complex things: love, family, disappointment, and achievements. This wide range of emotions connects her fans together through tunes. Brittany sings from a perspective of distances and of interludes between lovers and lives.
What’s next for this rising star? Brittany is currently working on her freshman album, titled “Release.” The two tracks mentioned above, “All of You” and “Everytime” can be found on the upcoming Release. She is also a member of the Da Den Entertainment LLC, which is her management team. Kelvin Scott, producer of DDE, says of Brittany, “We have been very instrumental in Brittany’s career. We believe in her vision and will work hard to see it become reality.” Da Den Entertainment has issued flyers, developed a street team, and created a website and music page to appeal to their target audience.
Brittany, extremely humble, is adamant about maintaining her focus to further her music career. She knows that with God on her side, anything is possible for her to achieve her goals. She wants to be a legend in the long run, much like her influences of Lauryn Hill and Whitney Houston to newer artists such as Chrisette Michele and Jazmine Sullivan. “ I want to be truthful to myself as far as my creativity. It is important for me to develop and brand my own sound instead of becoming saturated and lost in the industry.” She
goes on to say, “I want to illuminate in my music while remaining relatable to my audience.”
