Singer-songwriter Bianca Rose was named top of the pops after entering her soulful number in the Hip Hop/R'n'B category of the UK Songwriting Contest.

The 23-year-old, was surprised to beat thousands of competitors to the accolade, especially as she's only been writing music seriously for two years.

Her efforts could mean a publishing deal with a major record label, as well as television and radio appearances.

She said: "I only found out last week and I couldn't believe it.

"More than 4,000 people entered the competition. I saw my name in large print on the competition website saying I had won.

"It's absolutely brilliant."

Bianca's vibed-up song, Sound Of Love, is about the effect of love and music on the human body.

Her singing skills were first noticed when she was a young girl performing in front of worship-pers at church. She is the oldest of five siblings and says her family have given her lots of support.

Bianca has already recorded in Los Angeles and recently sang at a boxing event in London.

Winning the competition category means she could receive hi-tech recording equipment or professional studio recording time.

The UK Songwriting Contest was launched in 2002 in association with The Brit Trust, the group behind the Brit Awards.

Bianca said: "To even get this far is fantastic because it means my music is being appreciated."
