"BIG HUGE KEEPS THE PARTY GOING “LATE AT NIGHT”"

“Late At Night” is a sensual rock ‘n’ roll ode to partying and the bonds it can build. The track is from a forthcoming self-released EP by Brooklyn’s Big Huge, who achieve an impeccably catchy blend of garage rock and The California Sound, all while maintaining a DIY punk attitude and a Prince-inspired swagger.

The hard-working band has been flying under the radar in Brooklyn’s underground rock ‘n’ roll scene for a couple years now, having played many a show with friends in bars, lofts and rooftops. On their last tour to SXSW and back, they threw a show in a bikini shop’s backyard with Sheer Mag, Pujol, Gym Shorts and others.

This is the band’s best track yet, as they’ve simplified their approach and let their songs breathe. Here, in contrast to some of their earlier songs that sounded a little too busy, you can fully appreciate their infectious back and forth vocals, hard as fuck drumming, and shimmery but crunchy guitars and bass.

Tambourine-slamming and full-strutting frontman Dan Regelski sums up the things he’s doing late at night: “I like when the party's over and you're lying on top of a friend/ a few friends in bed, eating chips and yawning, talking about how crazy everyone you know is. In the early A.M. hours, the mind is reeling and the conversation usually aims back at present company at which point things can get pretty embarrassing, a little too heady, deeply confessional, unabashedly desperate - all of which is forgiven because you're too zonked out to care.”

This song feels like those moments. It’s rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia at it’s best. Enjoy it. - NOISEY - VICE

"Big Huge: Explosive Power Pop"

Call it the "pressure cooker effect": cramped, over-heated conditions that result in a tasty final product. It's an effect in full evidence on the new song "Can't Lie" from Brooklyn's Big Huge. The tune was written in a small, sweaty bedroom above a Bedstuy auto garage. It's the second single off their forthcoming self-released 7” called ORAMA—and you can practically see the sweat and steam glistening on the vinyl.

Dan Regelski’s power pop vocals occasionally hearken back to the syrupy-er moments of ‘50s rock n’ roll. And that's consistent with their founding DNA: the band began by covering golden-oldies at a ‘50s prom-themed party. But there’s that layer of grime, too—presumably from the band's nest above the garage. The guitars and drums drive the song forward with such hurtling energy that you could miss the fact that Big Huge is wearing its wild, bleeding heart on its lyrical sleeve. They sing about undeniable attraction, the kind of crush that takes years to get out your head.

In the two years since it started, Big Huge has taken its rowdy energy on three tours. As a band that has, since the beginning, specialized in making “big” things happen in small spaces, it’s probably not surprising that they recently organized an unofficial mini-fest at SXSW that was suitably muddy and chaotic. Oh, and: sweaty. - SOUNDCHECK - WNYC

"BIG HUGE, “LATE AT NIGHT” : Sweaty, nostalgia-filled rock ‘n roll to dance to."

Brooklyn’s Big Huge may be recounting hazy, rambunctious nights on their new single, but “Late at Nite” is a party all on its own. A swinging, infectious hook kicks off the song, giving way to clever guitar riffing that is, above all, fun. If you’re not howling “I wanna have a little late night conversation” along with the call-and-response chorus, then you’re moving and grooving to the old-school surf-rock rhythm. The track’s effortless catchiness belies its actual complexity, though; the track is full of moving parts and tight fills.

True to the band’s influences and DIY attitude, “Late at Nite” is the sound of ripped jeans, beer-soaked flannels, and sweat-drenched hair. It’s rare that a song so tailor-made for a basement is also so rump-shakingly dancey, but Big Huge has delivered a true summer jam for the garage-rock crowd. Expect the chorus to pop into your head when “it’s getting late, the time is right” at a shindig soon. - IMPOSE MAGAZINE
