Bio

Big Bad Wolf's up-beat bleand of Chicago, Delta Blues, Boogie Woogie with a little jazz flavour thrown in, has been meeting with enthusiastic audiences in Grey / Bruce for just over three years now. They have been affectionately described by other musicians as "authentic" sounding.

"If it sounds authentic, it's because we consciously or not, tend to imitate those we admire," says Brian O'Rourke, guitar, vocalist and music director of the band. "We play songs that are favourites from our record collection, artists like Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Robert Johnson, and Jimmy Reed.

"We don't just ape the original tunes. It's not a Classic Rock kind of thing. We take the tune and try to get inside it, understand it, then gradually make it our own." An approach Brian learned from his studies at the Humber jazz program.

In his quest for the right sound, or feel, Brian has a guitar amp that is a replica of 1958 Fender amp, using parts from the era. "I don't use any guitar effects or pedals, just the guitar and amplifier, just like they used to."

Playing with area musicians, Big Bad Wolf configures their sound to the needs of the venue. If you're looking for anything from a trio to a full-out 5 piece band, Big Bad Wolf delivers the right sound.
