Big Cheef is from Gary Indiana and has been a musician since the 4th grade when he started playin the trumpet then piano shortly after. He has been influenced by all music genres even before then. He got his first record player in the 2nd grade and without his moms concent would always sneak records and listen to them. This would prove to be the spark that lit his musical flame.
Growing up was hard as the story has been told many times over living with a single mother. Gary Indiana was rapidly on the decline with drugs, gangs, and murder. His mother wasn't involved in the three, but she was a heavy drinker. Thank God he is an only child. After funding for local athletics was wiped out music was his only escape from hardship and only hope for a bright future.
By the time CHEEF reached highschool he was confused and no londer involved with the band or piano playing. Yet he still had a hunger for music only now it was to rap. Teaming up with local artist, and producers CHEEF eventually started buying beats and renting studio time to record his songs. Always driven he resorted to the streets, and the internet to get his name out there. It was very hard to do coming from Indiana where the industry has yet to look for good artist and producers he also was never satisfied totally with the beats he was buying. This is when he used his prior musical knowledge to start producing his own material.
Cheef always wanted his own studio every since signing and recording with DJ Iternational out of Chicago in the 90s. This would now be possible with the advent of sequencing, and recording suites in software form. By saving money and utilizing layway in one year CHEEF had built his studio and started making his own music. Having prior knowledge of recording he would also by books on recording in order to make himself selfsufficient in the recording world. Now he has numerous songs available on the internet as well as a mixtape that was released in Atlanta following brief airplay on Hot 107.9 in Atlanta.
Never to be one dimentional CHEEF not only produces and raps, but also has his own label called Cheefedout Entertainment. He felt he had to learn the business end of the industry to find his way in coming from Indiana.
Nowadays CHEEF feels he is in the best possible position to make an impact on the music industry and fans.
