In a world filled with so much sadness and pain Big City is living proof of true redemption in Jesus. He has lived through some of the worst horrors of life on the rough streets of "the City of Brotherly Love". Born Ronald Goodwin in Philadelphia, Pa., Big City started writing poetry following in his older brother’s footsteps but soon discovered his musical gift. He began rapping eight years ago and was a member of the Young Lions and later joined the 13th Disciple Fam out of Philly. Since then he has evolved into a dynamic solo artist.
As a father of 3 wonderful children, he is disturbed by the virtual porn and violent lyrics played over the airwaves, and television. This husband, father, recording artist, and football coach is doing more then lament. Armed with the knowledge of his empowerment in Christ, Big City started a label, hit the booth waging war on Satan! The results are only one of the most pure and prolific Christian hip- hop albums to date.
From the beginning until the last bar of the sixteenth track his heated rugget style takes you to a time when hip-hop artist were seasoned emcees. With each verse skillfully crafted he takes aim straight at the heart of anyone within earshot. Filled with fluff free motivational joints for any situation, this album is intense. Raw, honest, smooth and yet gritty, Big City delivers without pretension. His lines,"I drive a van no jewels/rims don't spin/their are no 22's", and "God I live in a world where the fear of You is rejected/the don't care attitude is accepted and respected/I am trying this love thing out but I feel so dejected", makes it evident to skeptics that Big City is for real!
A true entertainer, Big City has been blessed to share stages with the two time Grammy nominated Canton Jones, Grammy nominated and Dove Award winner T. Bone, Jay Moss, R. Swiss, Judah Priest, J. Silas, the D.O.C. and so many others! His integrity and dedication has gained Big City the respect of fans and peers of all walks of life throughout the U.S. and abroad. Performing in venues such as: the "2006 Global Summit” in Washington, D.C., the “Speed the Light Youth Rally”, “The Gospel Splash” at the 2005 Florida Classic and more Big City’s efforts are not going un-noticed!
Focused forward, Big City works with great organizations to continue building strength and hope through benevolence and education. Holding true to his convictions, he is passionate about his role in the Christian Community’s national and global impact. To help foster spiritual, social and economic improvements he collaborates with pastors, Christian pro athletes ie; Max Strong, various industry leaders and political and community figures.
As a voice of encouragement Big City is a man striving for excellence in his service to God and mankind. With his #1 goal to see people (especially the youth) whole, he readily shares his testimonies of God’s mercies. Using the memory of how his older brother William rescued him from a pedophile when they were children he illustrates Jesus' compassion and sacrifice. Touching listeners with how William was too small to fight off this monster, offered to take Big City’s place and was sodomized at the age of 13. A true man of inspiration fueled by God’s grace and brotherly sacrifice, Big City is indeed a big problem to Satan.
