Big Deuxe

BandR&BSinger/Songwriter

Soulful R&B with flashes of other music genres-- whatever sounds real and reflects the thought of the moment.

Biography

The alias "Big Deuxe" (pronounced deuce) has been the music alter ego of one Robert E. Plant, II, for over a decade. Deuxe been involved with mathematics for a large part of his life (M.S., 2004), but music has been his love for over 15 years. He got his start with singing in lil' ol' St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church (Scott, AR), and even at ten and a half years of age, he has known to "close my eyes and find that 'place' where my voice could ring out." Big Deuxe began writing poetry at age 14 and writing songs within a year later, having compiled nearly 100 lyrics in just over a decade. Now 26, the self-proclaimed "Rocktown Solja #1" is just looking for that one opportunity to exhibit his vocal and songwriting prowess.

VERSE 1

It's six o'clock in the mornin',
Sun is risin' high;
Just another mornin' without you next to me.
I scream your name as I wake up,
Yet there's no reply;
Things ain't the same since you've been gone.

As I get ready for my job, I
Start to wonder about
All of those nights that we spent in ecstasy.
Baby, your love was the "one thing
That I just can't do without,"
And I don't see how it went wrong.

CHORUS

Why did you leave me by myself?
Why did you run off wit' someone else?
Is it 'cause of somethin' that I did or did not do?!
Well, I did ev'rything I could,
And if it wasn't any good,
Then you didn't love me the same way that I love you.

VERSE 2

Now it's just about noonday--
I sit in my office, all alone,
When normally, I would come and spend a lil' time wit' you.
My friends keep tellin' me to let it go
and just find a way to move on;
I only wish that they could understand!

The very thought of your leavin'
Seemed, to me, an illusion.
Yet, to my surprise, I found that it had come true.
After thinking this over,
I have come to this conclusion:
Girl, I can't "love" you ever again!!

CHORUS

BRIDGE

Never again will I be hurt!
Never again will I feel blue!
It's a cryin' shame that things must be this way,
But it's all because of YOU!!!

FINALE
(It's) Seven o'clock in the evenin',
And the phone begins to ring;
All of a sudden, girl, you wanna come back to me.
But baby, you left me so lonely,
And though you still mean ev'rything,
Baby, I'm sorry, but it just can't be!

Gospel Train

Written By: Robert E. (BIG DEUXE) Plant, II

VERSE 1

For those of you who choose to side with the Lord,
Grab your tickets and get on board.
It won’t be long, now, before He comes again
To claim His people and fulfill His plan.
You ain’t gon’ make it there by what you’ve heard—
You have to choose to live by His word.
If you forsake Him, though, for the ways of men,
Your ticket’s revoked! Receive your wages of sin!

God sent His only Son, who gave his life
To lighten our burdens and ease all our strife,
But how can He declare you to be His
If you don’t believe that HE IS WHO HE IS?!
The Only Begotten, and the Risen Messiah—
His law is truth, and there’s none that’s higher.
The Light of the World—forever shall He reign…
He’s comin’ back aboard the Gospel Train. Come on!

REFRAIN

I love the Lord. He heard my cry,
And He pitied ev’ry groan.
Long as I live, and troubles rise,
I’ll hasten to His throne.

VERSE 2

To him who’s claimin’ to be
The mediator of the Father and His Seed—
See, you have no exemption from human flaw,
Yet you declare to be righteous above His law?!?!
GET OVER YOURSELF! What would’ve been the point of the Savior
Bringin’ Himself into the world to be exposed to behavior
That would seemingly be enough to make a grown man cry
In this day and age? Why’d He have chosen to die,

When He could’ve stayed where He was and let us fall to oblivion?
Now you can’t be of the Father—that’s the devil you’re steerin’ in.
Let the walls of your city come tumblin’ down,
And in the fierceness of His wrath, may you be driven to drown!
See, how dare you take His people and just lead ‘em astray,
Even to the point where some of them will, on Judgment Day,
Be subjected to hail, fire, and brimstone, burnin’ in flames?!
God’s people, come outta there, ‘cause here come the Train!!

As One

Written By: Robert E. (BIG DEUXE) Plant, II

VERSE 1
I wanted to find another way
To tell you how I feel about you.
I wanted to tell you, just the other day,
‘Bout how I know that I can’t live without you.

The way that you hold me in the middle of the night,
Touchin’ me all over—girl, it feels so right.
The way that you rock me ‘til the mornin’ light, sqeezin’ me tightly—
Ooh, you’re so ripe to me! All I’m wantin’ you to know is…

REFRAIN (Chorus)
I need you. If you need me, too, (here I stand.)
And when you feel as though you’re floatin’ on water, I’ll (be your land.)
Gimme a chance to prove that I can love you forever. (Take my hand,
And let us be as one.)

VERSE 2
Over time, I’ve had a chance to assess romance in its essence full
As I seek to know the meanin’ of real love.
I’d be remised if I were to let you walk away
Without informin’ you of these things that I’m thinkin’ of,

Such as was this you and me really meant to be, and if not me, then whom? Tell me why.
If I woke up one day, wantin’ to walk away, how would you hinder me from sayin’ goodbye?
And if, with opened eyes, we finally realize that we must fight to make this work, then girl, can we try?
I need to know these answers before this love, intertwinin’, begins to unravel, so please hear my cry!

REFRAIN

BRIDGE
As I close my eyes, I begin to envision all the possibilities
Of a consummation so tightly bonded by the Keeper of All Livin’ for eternity
That not even Satan himself can claim to rip apart
This union, between you and me, of love that’s comin’ from the hearts
Of both. And if we’re gonna make this evolve
Beyond a simplistic relationship, we have to resolve
To be real wit’ our emotions, steadfast in our devotion to each other
And to let no one put asunder this union of real lovers.

So what I’m tryin’ to say, in so many words,
Is a phrase that is nowadays seldom said with meaning, but often heard.
I just want it to be real when it comes forth from my lips, for anything artificial will cease to be.
So will you

Make
A
Resolution to spend the
Rest of
Your life with

ME?

Love Is a Borrowed Feeling

Written By: Robert E. (BIG DEUXE) Plant, II

REFRAIN
Love is a borrowed feelin’ that has caused so many relationships to have a downfall,
But love is the only reason why I’m stayin’ right here with you—in spite of it all. (2X)

VERSE 1
Every kiss I share wit’ you reminds me of the way it was when we first met,
But sometimes, I contemplate on what is really goin’ on wit’ us… I don’t know, yet.
One minute, we’re fussin’ and fightin’; the next thing I know, you’re layin’ right next to me—here, in my arms.
Seein’ how much I’ve grown wit’ you in my life, girl, I much rather let it be. I’d let no harm come upon you from my end.

REFRAIN

VERSE 2
Lust and infatuation have been riddlin’ me all my life in terms of what’s real ‘tween me and you.
My vision is clouded to the point that I can’t distinguish the emotions that I feel, and this is true.
But like the Allegheny and Monongahela flow and become one in the Heartland as the Ohio,
So too will my lovin’ for you grow strong as my heart remains in the palm of your hand… let’s just hope that we’ll forever be friends.

BRIDGE
Makes you wonder what could be wrong.
Makes you wonder why this love has still grown.
Make you wonder when we’ll be through.
But don’t ever wonder how I found the peace of mind to be wit’ you.
