Roadkill Resurrection

Written By: Joshua Jedwab/Shoshana Jedwab

She's putting down her blue guitar
And hanging up the silver microphone
She's trying to have a baby
Cause everything is timing don't you know
But she's thinking that she might be getting old
So she's seeing every doctor in town
And when they tell her that there ain't no way
And they tell her that there ain't no how
She goes to get her prescription filled
At the one place that never turns her down

Cause at the Roadkill Resurrection
The band will come on to revive
The folks who have got no protection
And all the fools who don't survive
And at the Roadkill Resurrection
Your redemption's never very far
Cause at the Roadkill Resurrection
It's just 12 steps to the bar

And the band plays: Hush sweet Charlotte don't you cry
The baby's coming; the baby's coming any time
You'll have your peaches on the vine
Pink or blue, God will decide

He's betting on a bullish stock
But has a heart attack while on the phone
Now he's trying to win his life back
Cause everything is timing don't you know
Yet he doesn't think it's time for going slow
So he's ignoring every doctor in town
And when they talk about the stress and the working late
And they talk about the losing twenty pounds
He goes to get his prescription filled
At the one place that never brings him down

Cause at the Roadkill Resurrection
The band will come on to revive
The folks who have got no protection
And all the fools who don't survive
And at the Roadkill Resurrection
Your redemption's never very far
Cause at the Roadkill Resurrection
It's just 12 steps to the bar

And the band plays: You see your dream across the road
There's just two lanes; just two lanes for you to go
There's a thrill in the speeding flow
Green or red God only knows

And at the Roadkill Resurrection
You never have to cry into your beer
The band will know just what to play
Cause you only hear what you want to hear
And you always get your favorite table
And time itself is perfectly still
And you always can and you're always able
Til closing time and then you're roadkill

Gap in the Cars

Written By: Joshua Jedwab/Shoshana Jedwab

This highway's filled with cars and smoke
The vinyl's fire in the traffic's throat
Slaves all day behind a desk
Do not yield to hope or rest

But someone in and old Grand Prix
Yields the right hand lane to me
Mercy, mercy's wings on me
I drive into the space that's free
Believing there’s a chance for me

Cause there's a gap in the cars
There's a break on the road
There's a gap in the cars
There's a place for some hope
Like a fresh song on the radio – whoa oh oh
There's a gap in the cars
There's a chance for me
I wish there'd been one for my daddy back in '43
I'm gonna ride this gap back home to you and me

Some like Prozac and some like dope
But I do a line on the telephone
I take the risk, you say, for free
But your lover's left your fantasies

Soccer Mom from Hell

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

You need to heed the lesson of the story that I tell
And never ever piss off a soccer mom...

She drove her daughter Jen up to the field at one o'clock that Saturday
With a uniform so clean it could be seen about a half a mile away
And then she grabbed herself a facial and a latte grand supreme
But there was trouble brewing with the soccer team

Arriving back and three her Jenny's face was a disgrace of dried up tears
Apparently Coach Brown sat Jen down for not getting it in gear
Now don't you worry Jen she told her as she tucked her in that night
Now you just rest, I'll do my best, I'll make it right

Oh she's always there but no one sees her
Overlooked all her life
Oh now that's the very thing that frees her
To hide in plain sight

So she got into her best strapless dress and drove off to Mr. Brown's
But he totally ignored the things she said and he just looked her up and down
Cause to him now after all she was just another soccer mom
He didn't sense the consequence of coming on

Oh she's always there but no one sees her
Overlooked all her life
Oh now that's the very thing that frees her
To what she did that night

Never the prom queen nor likely to succeed
Now Mary Kay and the PTA are how she fills her need
When others took the brass ring you know she never did
But she swore she'd rather die than let that happen to her kid

So she let him take her hand when he planned to do her in his bed
But she did him like a bug with the drug that exploded in his head
And no one seems to know for sure just how he wound up that ditch
I guess that Mr. Brown he found too late how death can be a bitch

Sitting on the sidelines Jenny's mom throws Jen a smile
And once again leaving no loose ends there won't be a trial
So if you've listened carefully to all that I've been putting down
Then maybe you won't end up like poor old Mr. Brown
You need to heed the lesson of the story that I tell
And never ever piss off a soccer mom from hell.

(Let's Do It) All Night Long

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

It's time to tuck away the children
Time to put away the dishes
Then my one and only wish is
To do it all night long

Come on and kick off those slippers
And slink your black dress on
We'll have something good for confession
Let's do it all night long

And it's true that we ain't twenty-one
That's gone but that's just fine
Cause it's so sweet to bring the heat
When we take our own sweet time

I know our lives are frenetic
And we've got so much on our plate
But right now before it's too late
Let's do it all night long

And it's true that we ain't twenty-one
That's gone but that's just fine
Cause it's so sweet to bring the heat
When we take our own sweet time

Don't even think about tomorrow
There's nothing to be afraid of
So come on let's make love
All night long

Don't need a long discussion
Don't want a mass debate
I'm already down upon my knees
Just can't stand to wait

Don't give a damn what they might say
I don't care what they might hear
Oooh a little to the right, dear
Please do that all night long

Path of Least Resistance

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

I sit and I look out upon the wreckage of my life
The shards of broken promise, the bits of compromise
Tossed around and battered by the winds of fear
Now lying here all scattered in a field of dirt and tears

Cause the road that I traveled has been a road to despair
Oh the path of least resistance leads nowhere

I cry about the love I might have had, had I not run
The battles that I should have fought, the glory to be won
But I'd lock away the passion and wrap myself in doubt
To walk the path of least resistance to take the easy way out

Scared to death of living, I'd never take the risk
But now I'm afraid to die without ever having lived

Now the road I will travel leads to joy or despair
But the path of least resistance leads nowhere
And though I will stumble and though I may fall
The path of least resistance leads nowhere at all

Ironic how it takes so many years to realize
That wisdom only comes to one who sees through child's eyes
And even though I cannot know what lies beyond the hill
Still a tiny little baby step sure beats standing still... and I will... oh...

Stand on up to move ahead and get on living life
Cause I decided I won't go quiet into that long good night

And though I will stumble and though I may fall
The path of least resistance leads nowhere at all
Leads nowhere, leads nowhere, leads nowhere at all
Oh the path of least resistance leads nowhere at all

In America

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

And he was walking home
To his family and wife
When they dragged him down the road
And they ripped away his life
And just because his skin
Was darker than their own
Yet his blood ran red like theirs
As it flowed out on the stone

But that can't happen in America
From sea to shining sea
No that can't happen in America
Have a beer and watch TV
It just can't happen in America
America the land of the free
Cause if it happens in America
Then it could happen to me

And he'd been hanging out
Spending time with friends
When they chained him to the fence
Left to the wind and left for dead
And just because he lived and loved
In a way they thought was odd
That made it right enough
To allow them to play God

But that can't happen in America
From sea to shining sea
No that can't happen in America
Have a beer and watch TV
It just can't happen in America
America the land of the free
Cause if happens in America
Then it could happen to me

And they were off to school
Like good little soldiers should
But you know boys will be boys
They sometimes get up to no good
And when they couldn't find a better way into our hearts
They decided to take aim and blow us all apart

And that's what's happening America
In America today
It's time to wake up in America
Before it's too late
So all our children can inherit the America
We all want it to be
Open up your eyes America
We've got to realize America
When it happens in America it's happening to me

I Think I'll Be the President Today

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

I'm tired of all the Hollywood premieres
The money and the fame ain't what they used to be
The screams of all my fans well they just hurt my ears
My plastic surgeon named his yacht for me

Two therapists, three kids, and four ex-wives
A wing is set aside for me at Betty Ford's
It may be true, I don't know how to run my life
But that won't stop me from running yours... and so...

I think I'll be the President today
I think I'll be the President today
Cause I got nothing else to do
Than be the one who governs you
I think I'll be the President today

I know just what the naysayers will say
They're all so cynical and all so circumspect
Accusing me of being just another fake
Cause all I really want is to direct... and so...

I think I'll be the President today
I think I'll be the President today
Cause I got nothing else to do
Than be the one who governs you
I think I'll be the President...

I just can't wait to see it on TV
I'm born to play this role so graciously
I'll thank my mom and the whole Academy
And all you little people who'll vote for me

I'd just love to have a whirl
At being master of the world
I think I'll be the President... the President... the President today

State of Grace

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

Sometimes her eyes betray the sadness in life
But her smile reveals a spirit in full flight
Like a Phoenix she'll always find a way to rise
And when she touches me I realize
That I live in a state of Grace

And I would travel by her side down any road she takes
Cause anywhere that she sets foot becomes a better place
And I don't care, no I don't care about the details of my fate
I'll walk with her I'll stay with her in a state of Grace

Even in the darkness that comes before the dawn
I have seen her light the way to carry on
And she says that when you finally know
What to hold inside and what to let go
Then you'll find your state of Grace

The River and the City

Written By: Joshua Jedwab/Shoshana Jedwab

In the gray early morning I drive down the road
To the bridge over the river to the city far from home
The toll booth takes my money and the city takes my soul
And I see the river kissing the city in the dawn

She dances round his elbow, he's turning on her hip
Her steel blue waters touch the stone of his skin
The city's tossing spears at the sky all day
Kneels low to the river before she flows away

The river and the city are kissing in the dawn
The mountains are her memory but this city's where she's borne
Lovers different as traveling rain and stone
But the river and the city are kissing in the dawn

The Courtesy Motel in Jersey's my home
Near the Highway Four divider and the discount stores
Though we're very different we don't have to be alone
As the river and the city kiss in the dawn

Is right always right and is wrong always wrong
Can the manmade and the natural ever really get along
Maybe so will you and I before too long
Like the river and the city kissing in the dawn

The river and the city are kissing in the dawn
The mountains are her memory but this city's where she's borne
Lovers different as traveling rain and stone
But the river and the city are kissing in the dawn

Faithful is the river to her city near the sky
Before she dives into the sea she hugs the city line
Before she dives into the sea a dream of God must fly
Faithful is the river to her city near the sky

The river and the city are kissing in the dawn
The mountains are her memory but this city's where she's borne
Lovers different as traveling rain and stone
But the river and the city are kissing in the dawn

Dolly Time

Written By: Joshua Jedwab

Today a dragon came and ripped a hole into your favorite skirt
And a monster in the playground went nd pushed you in the dirt
But in this castle with its walls of pink the dragons have been slain
And nothing can touch you now safe from the horrors of first grade

You were the first one to come into my life
The soul of the flow of the love of man and wife
And now you're beginning to walk a bit more sure
And you're needing less of me to be strong and feel secure

But when the night comes and you look up and you say it's dolly time
And I tell you how you're loved and how everything's all right
And when you sigh when I'm holding your little hands in mine
That.s got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know

And I watch you with feelings of both happiness and dread
Cause I know the years will steal my girl and leave a woman in her stead
But todays are here so short a time, so let's enjoy their stay
So that when tomorrows come, we will love our yesterdays

When the night comes and you look up and you say it's dolly time
And I tell you how you're loved and how everything's all right
And when you sigh when I'm holding your little hands in mine
That's got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know

There was a time when I thought that life was for me myself and I
And I couldn't see the wonder that was right before my eyes
But then you taught me what is beautiful and you taught me what is true
That the greatest part of life is the time I have with you

And when you sigh when I am holding your little hands in mine
That's got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know

Oh Lacey

Written By: Dawn Barclay/Joshua Jedwab

Threw away your husband just to chase the dream
Couldn't reconcile him with your life on screen
You built your ideal on a shaky foundation
Basing all your norms on a standard deviation

Always searching for that sweeter ache
But you gave up more than you meant to forsake
There was always someone out there who could make you scream
But no one could treat you lower than your own self esteem
Oh Lacey...
Didn't you know...

Perfection lies beyond pixels
Cyber heavens turn to private hells
You can't drown your demons or cure all your ills
With the vodka bottle and those sleeping pills

You couldn't bear it that he planned to rewed
Thought him heartbroken but he recovered instead
Then your computer's hum became too loud to take
And the scroll on the screen was too fast to keep pace
Oh Lacey...

The chatters droned on but their message was lost
You weighed their advice against the soul it had cost
So you sent your boy away to spend time with your ex
And cleared out the hard drive so they'd never suspect
Oh Lacey...
Didn’t you know...

Jona

Written By: Shoshana Jedwab/Joshua Jedwab

Jona take good care of everyone around
Keep it together even if you drown
A woman don't get angry don't say no too loud
A girl can't go crazy cause she's not allowed

Give her a map from her place of hurt
She just a child from her garden of birth
She says I can't fix anyone except for me’
So she's going to a place where she can be free

Cause she kept it all together for too long
Being the one who had to be strong
But she'll keep it all for herself for a while
Riding away on a bike from hell

Jona's got a hell of a whale of bike
She rides it through the night
Fueled by hate and by love and by spite
She rides it through the night
Jona's got a whale of a bike
Jona's got a whale of a bike

Bought it this morning from a friend of mine
Italian made with sexy stallion lines
She's gonna tear up these silent nights
Run over the town and burn down the fields of lies

Dressed in leather she guns her chrome machine
Wake up the war that she’s fighting in her dreams
And she'll get arrested for something obscene
She'll say ‘no’ and she’ll say exactly what she means

Cause she kept it all together for too long
Being the one who had to be strong
Now she'll keep it all for herself for a while
Riding away on a bike from hell

Jona's got a hell of a whale of bike
She rides it through the night
Fueled by hate and by love and by spite
She rides it through the night
Jona's got a whale of a bike
Jona's got a whale of a bike

Gingerbread Houses

Written By: Dawn Barclay/Joshua Jedwab

GINGERBREAD HOUSES

After ten years of on and off dating
He said his cheating days were past
So you walked down that long aisle with him
While your friends bet on how long it would last
Well I for one was not a bit surprised
When I got that tearful call
To say you'd set aside those fairy tales
To read the writing on the wall

Didn't I tell you... didn't I tell you... mmm....hmm

Well you gave him the benefit of the doubt
And for that you took your licks
You know you can't defend a heart of straw
When it's up against a heart of bricks
You filled your basket 'til it overflowed
But you squandered all your sweets
Cause through trusting eyes you failed to recognize
The wolf underneath your sheets

Didn't I tell you... didn't I tell you... mmm... hmm

Well Sleeping Beauty's got insomnia
Cinderella's slipper's cracked
When Jack climbed up the beanstalk
You know the giant's dog attacked
You can't pull a thorn from the lion's paw
Without getting torn limb from limb
Better get yourself out of a gingerbread house
Before the walls start caving in

Didn't I tell you... didn't I tell you... mmm... hmm

Well some may call me cynical
And say I'll never taste love's fruits
But I'd rather spend days without passion plays
Than spend my nights in armor suits
Magic Kingdoms can be overthrown
Santa Claus can lose his way
And all the stars that you wish upon
Will disappear when night turns to day

Didn't I tell you... didn't I tell you... mmm... hmm

Well Sleeping Beauty's got insomnia
Cinderella's slipper's cracked
When Jack climbed up the beanstalk
You know the giant's dog attacked
You can't pull a thorn from the lion's paw
Without getting torn limb from limb
Better get yourself out of a gingerbread house
Before the walls start caving in

Long Distance Lover

Written By: Shoshana Jedwab/Joshua Jedwab

It's one a.m. on the internet
I'm a firefly lit up in the web
I write you my secrets but you don't see me sweat
It's two a.m. on the internet
The blue highway of our singles set
What can I ask for? What can you expect?

Don't be afraid everyone's projecting
Don’t be ashamed everyone's defending
Everybody's blind to one another
So come on and get out from in back of the screen
Come on and get out come on and be seen
It's time to turn off the light and turn up the heat

Cause I want it real with you
And I want to feel with you
I want to be more than a long distance lover
And I want to breathe with you
And I want to seethe with you
I want to be more than a long distance lover

I live in the east but you live in the west
And I don't want to write you no Jane Austen text
A desert of words with so little sex
It's three a.m. on the internet
And I haven’t never seen no kind of answer yet
Do you even see me? Or are we virtually dead?

Random Acts of Kindness

Written By: Dawn Barclay/Joshua Jedwab

Life's short; time is both a friend and enemy,
With each act we carve our own history.
Open up; don't keep it bottled up inside,
Cause the value of living's in the good we leave behind.
In each of us a power exists,
To spread love and wonder if we just commit...

Random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty,
If you can change someone else's attitude then it's your duty.
Show them that the world is waiting,
Don't waste time just contemplating,
Smile with your life and life will shine on you.

Each day is a gift, a present to be shared,
With those whose vision may be clouded by despair,
Witness the power of a single outstretched hand,
Or the healing of the words, "I understand."
If you look deep inside of your soul,
You might find the pieces to make another person whole
