Bio

Born on May 9th, 1989 in Perry, GA, Vernessia Jackson came into this world with a gift for words, especially words married to music. At the age of 12 she found herself captured by magnetic attraction of Hip-Hop. She spent her days rhyming for fun, taking the time to write a verse, and then performing it for her friends. This was just the beginning.

Vernessia began to put words to music in earnest. The summer of 2003 was pivotal. It was during this period that she recorded her first song, Bloomfield Thugs. The song was recorded in a friend’s bedroom. The session took all of twenty minutes. However, twenty minutes was enough. That was all the time Vernessia needed to know the truth. Her passion was music. Her destiny was rap. She was someone new. Big Girl was born.

Big Girl knew she had a talent. She was special. Now, she had to cultivate what was growing in her heart. She had to succeed at all costs. She had moved from Perry to Macon, GA where she was raised. She had just come out of her shell, and started rapping, when she had to move again, this time to Riverdale, GA. Unlike her alter ego, Big Girl, Vernessia was shy. In Riverdale, it took her a moment to recapture the essence of her true self. In 6 months time, she hooked up with a group of friends, and formed Showtime Entertainment.

Big Girl had started recording in a studio. People were comparing her to Gangsta Boo, La Chat, Shawnna, and others. She recorded her first solo song, Leave Me Alone, and found herself inspired. Recording a solo song in a real studio was empowering. She knew she was meant to for the world of Hip-Hop.

Rapping with Showtime was a growth experience. She performed in front of a live audience for the first time, appearing in Atlanta clubs, such as Club Chocolate, and Club Legacy. However, these performances were more like talent shows. They didn’t do much for the group as a whole. Eighteen months went by, with no progress. Big Girl expressed her concerns to the group. She wanted to do more shows, compilations CD’s, and mix tapes. This was her passion, and she wanted to push it to the limit. However, the rest of the group didn’t agree with her point of view. So, she continued to write, continued to rhyme, continued to hone her craft, and hope for the best.

In March of 2006, Big Girl decided to do an open mic show at the 20 Grand East. It was one of the most memorable nights of her young life. She literally moved the crowd. As she was exiting the stage she was greeted by hugs and congratulations from the crowd. That was the beginning of the next phase of her Hip-Hop journey.

Big Girl is now back in the studio, signed to G.E. Entertainment, where she finds herself regularly doing what she does best, taking white-hot words, laced with body-moving beats to create music that moves, music that comes to life. Welcome her to the world; she is Big Girl AKA Da Queen.
