"Big Lean Makes It Big Time Performing at the BET Hip Hop Awards"

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- Lincoln Carr, known as Big Lean, is a young, talented and ambitious Charlottesville musician that's taking the music industry by storm.

Lifelong friend, Rhison Anderson, describes Big Lean as a humble, intelligent, young king who is always trying to better himself and those around him.

Big Lean wants people to hear his music and prides himself on bringing the "feel good" music back.

He writes, raps and produces all his music describing his sound as "very smooth, soulful, with a powerful message...definitely laid back."

Friends and fans say Big Lean is channeling The Golden Age of Hip Hop, which is an upbeat 90s style of music. His passion for music landed him a spot in this year's performing lineup at the BET Hip Hop Awards.

"I've been doing this for quite a while," said Big Lean. "Wasn't really nervous. I was more so anxious just to show the judges and people down there what I really have to offer."

Reminiscing on his love for music, at age eight he started making music on a little keyboard and the rest is history. A kid with big dreams, Big Lean took his music seriously after the passing of a close friend.

Anderson says, after the devastating death, Big Lean used it as motivation and put all his energy into making lyrically conscious rap.
Now, Big Lean proudly has ten released projects and produces music videos to spread his message.

"Coming from Charlottesville, which is a small town, I just want to relate to people like that," said Big Lean. "Even though you're not from a big city, you can really make it."

Competing against hundreds, he entered his unreleased song "Lord I'm Dope" into the contest and stole the heart of fans and judges.
Big Lean came in second place, but he was a judges' pick meaning the judges hand selected him to perform.

He traveled down to Atlanta and performed his original song on a national platform on Oct. 10.

"It definitely is a good feeling," said Big Lean. "Me growing up I had a lot of positive role models, main one being my father. I definitely want to change the world and change lives. Music is the number one communication."

The winner of the stage contest hasn't been revealed yet, but if Big Lean wins, he will receive $100,000 toward his musical career.
His now nationally recognized song "Lord I'm Dope" will be released on iTunes next month. - Talya Cunningham - CBS 19 News
