"Gargantua: Fear of a Fat Planet"

http://www.montrealfringe.ca/2007/show.php?id=48

Totally campy & hysterical and surprisingly moving. Made me want to dance!
Amie

What a fun show! Campy, sexy, funny. A Fringe must-see!
Kiki

These chicks put on one steller show. Fun, fun, fun with a great message. Energetic and silly.

I appreciated the B-movie concept, from their excellently designed promo materials to their stage execution. These ladies prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that size is not a roadblock on the way to being a talented dancer. The fusion of dance, theatre, Colette Gagnon's beautiful voice, and Jaclyn Friedman's flowing poetry create a masterpiece that is absolutely LARGER than life.

Really campy, really silly, goofy jokes, equally goofy plot, over the top acting... but still a rolickingly good time and great fun. These powerful women demonstrate beyond a doubt that all bodies are beautiful and sexy. You walk out of this show feeling very positive about yourself and you love yourself just as you are. I think the very good poetry (ode to the thigh, ode to the booty, ode to the belly, etc) has a lot to do with that. These girls can dance, sing, move, and do it with tremendous smiles on their faces. I wish that these ladies were gracing the pages of magazines because they positively glow!
Rachel

LOVE IT! MUST SEE! These ladies ROCK so hard. Great dancing, fun, silly, and campy!
Wanna-be Gargantuan

This has got to be one of the funniest shows I've seen here at the Fringe. The singing and dancing is great, not to mention the fabulous over-the-top, B grade movie acting. Go fatties!
Gabe

I met a few of these ladies while they were sun bathing on St. Laurent then went to see the show. The show was moving as well as hilarious. The acting is spot on and the vocals and dance are wonderful as well. I may go back to see a second performance because once is just not enough. Love you ladies!

Go fatties, go twiggies, go Charlie!
Rachel

Francine

I had a chubby for the fatties the whole time. See, in Montreal, there is not much in regards to FA, or fat appreciation. I loved these ladies, they can sing, they can dance, they can act, they can ham it up, they can come to my house! I would recommend this show to anyone who admires fatties and they're big big fat booty.

Dare I say this is the funniest most silly show at the Fringe? Saw it tonight and loved it!
Star

These ladies know how to move. Great show, definately a Fringe must-see.

Bio

Big Moves is dedicated to creating high-quality, multi-genre dance productions featuring performers of all sizes. Because performance dance in the Western tradition has historically been restricted to thin bodies, Big Moves is particularly focused on providing training and performance opportunities for dancers who are larger than dance world norms. Our outreach and education programs promote self-acceptance and self-love for all dancers, of any size and all skill levels, as they work toward growing and fine-tuning their range of abilities, technique, and expression through movement. We are a community of pioneers, banded together to support each other in expanding and exploring the boundaries of the dancer’s body. Ultimately, these explorations are directed at nothing less than a paradigm shift, toward a society in which size diversity is celebrated, not feared.

Big Moves was founded in 2000 by Marina Wolf Ahmad, a plus-size dancers who wanted to create community, training opportunities, and performances for herself and other dancers who otherwise were left out of the dance mainstream. The organization began operations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and expanded to Boston in January 2005, and to New York in May of 2006. These three areas have their own branches of Big Moves, and Boston additionally is the home base for a touring company that reaches to Montréal, Philadelphia, and other locations along the East Coast.

Big Moves is award-winning. Internationally award-winning. Our revival of Gargantua got rave reviews from audiences and thumbs-up from the critics, and we brought back the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe award from the Montréal Fringe Festival in June 2007. Naturally, this sort of honor just makes us leap higher at the brass ring of greatness, which means that our fans and sponsors can be sure they are supporting some of the best and most groundbreaking performances in the field of size-accepting dance and theater.
