Can Music Change Lives? Well Here Comes Big Poppa!

LOUISVILLE, KY, January 2, 2009—Big Poppa Stampley, Legendary Chicago Recording Artist & Blues, Caribbean and Jazz guitar man and his newly released project "Here Comes Big Poppa Stampley!", written to enrich the musical experience of Down-home Blues, Caribbean and Jazz lovers. “It was next to impossible to find a single text with everything I wanted to do”. This album brings together all of the sounds and techniques of an incredible musical experience.”

As an artist and teacher, he chose" Here Comes Big Poppa Stampley!" title based upon living out your dreams in this New Year and being the name and prevalent force in this new genre of music…Big Poppa is known as the “KING of CaribluJazz”! In the midst of what we do as musicians, trying to let the music reach the hearts and souls of music lovers, artists strive for the balance of life and harmony. This balance is uniquely displayed in this wonderful work of art.

Big Poppa is also a teacher of the arts…through his “Music History in Motion”. He created the program in 1997 and has toured the US in both secondary schools and colleges. The response to his teaching has been gratifying. “I have seen introverts come out of their shells and begin playing, and the kids have had an honest interest in the history and language of music. That is exciting”. Some of those who have studied the precepts and concepts with Big Poppa have gone on to become players/artists themselves. Many have attested to their lives being changed forever through the effectiveness of music. “That’s when there’s that connection between the heart of music and your heart; that’s when your life is changed.”

The renaissance musician for the new millennium with blues drenched mix of Cariblujazzean sound with urban blues like “Co-dependant Blues” and “Lips”, country soul with “Ain’t Gonna Rain Forever” (co –written with the Chi-Lites, Antwan Hardy), and Caribbean-flavored “Love and Careers” with 6 other tasty musical dishes.

Big Poppa has performed, played or recorded with such artists as Koko Taylor, Dave Myers(w/Little Walter, Chess Records), Earl “Chinna” Smith, Calypso Rose, Montel Jordan, Queen Latifah, Common, Mint Condition, Roger (w/ the Zap Band), Delfonics, Jerry Butler, Billy Always, Pop Staples, Roy Ayers, Maya Angelou, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Al Jarreau and many more.

Here is what they are saying about Big Poppa: “The hardest working blues man in Kentucky!”, Gary Sampson, President of Kentuckiana Blues Society;

“One of Chicago’s best guitarmen; with guitar and vocal magic that should not be missed!”, John Gauge of WFPK/NPR Kentucky Homefront;

“The most satisfying Blues artist I’ve heard in a long time”, Barry Burnson, after appearing on FOX 41 in the Morning; “I think I hired the baddest band in the world”, Oprah Winfrey.
