Big Quan Announces Releases Single “Journey of my Life”

Syracuse, NY – Fate struck the life of artist Big Quan when relocation to the islands introduced him to what would be his destiny; surrounded by the constant sounds of Jamaican rhythm, Big Quan was inspired to become a musical sensation. Now, with the release of his latest single “Journey of my Life,” dreams become reality for the up and coming musician.

The song, a love story of sorts, is “something everyone can relate to,” according to Big Quan. It’s the performer’s first foray into hip-hop, primarily a rap artist in his former work. An honest account of a failed relationship, the artist explains that the song is a reflection on the good and bad that came out of a prior relationship. “It’s about a girl I was dating, and we were trying to make it work. We grew out of each other. When you end a relationship, you look back and reflect on things you’ve done.” Refreshingly candid, the song will reach audiences to their core, since nearly everyone can relate to the heartache and dismay of a breakup. “I shared my life in that song. It’s good to be honest,” explains Quan.

The song has already met great success globally, and Big Quan is currently collaborating with The Power Group, a top dance music promotion company based out of London. The song has reached the UK and the Netherlands, and the artist has released remixes of the song that are making waves across Europe. “The pop genre is huge out there,” says the artist, “so I wanted to start there and then convert to the United States.”

The now 30-year-old artist’s journey has been a long time coming. From the streets of Brooklyn to the islands and now back in his home state of New York, the artist is diverse and determined to achieve musical greatness.

"CD Review: Big Quan – Make U Smile EP"

Big Quan – Make U Smile EP
2008, Big Quan

From Brooklyn to Utica, NY, and from Montego Bay to LA, Laquan Johnson (AKA Big Quan) has had his eyes on the prize. Big Quan has been rhyming now for eight years, and has more to his style and substance than your typical gangsta rapper. As I write Big Quan is in the process of wrapping up his debut album, but Make U Smile is already generating significant spins on college radio. Having already been a runner-up in the February 2008 round for VH-1’s Song Of The Year, and a quarter finalist in the 2008 Fight Klub – FK Anthem Contest, Big Quan is generating a lot of buzz in the music industry. He may just be the next big thing.

Big Quan is poised to turn the worlds of hip-hop and rap on their collective heads. With intelligent rhymes that are crisp and sincere, Big Quan stands to lead rap into a new generation of fans. Big Quan is infectious; it's very clear he's in this for all the right reasons. Big Quan is having fun making music, and hailing from Utica, NY he might be one of the first artisans of rural rap. Make U Smile is a collective shout out to his family and friends. It's peppy and positive but is not shy in language or tenor. Big In Da Club is very danceable and is probably destined to be self-fulfilling. Chain Shinin' has a nasty bass groove and probably will win an award for best use of the word cauliflower in a rap song. Again, Big Quan is literate and thoughtful covering material that many have rhymed with much less elegance. Always On My Mind uses rhythms and samples to create a sugary hip-pop confection to support Big Quan's rhymes, which constitute a love song in metered words.

Make U Smile is a plus effort and a great introduction to Big Quan. There are easily two (and possibly three) songs here that have significant commercial potential. Always On My Mind is the bubble song here, only because the supporting vocals sound like something Ross Bagdasarian might have recorded. A different vocalist on those supporting vocals and this song joins Make U Smile and Big In Da Club as potential hits. I suspect that Big Quan is going to be a monster. A year from now everyone will know his name. For now, readers, you are some of the few, the initiated. If rap is your thing, catch on to Big Quan now.

These tracks are smart hip hop, rap tracks with good
song writing and a full sound. The music is diverse and have a radio
friendly sound. The tracks musical aspects range from electro to dirty
south, to straight classic hip hop feel. The raps are strong and catchy.
Laquan has a unique rapping style and has the ability to rap with melodic
forms and keep a strong rhythm. The vocals sound great especially when
double tracked which is often in this CD. The beats all have good
grooves and flow. The production is well done as is the mix, but most
important is the energy captured on this CD. Well written and put together

BigQuan at work on New EP

Syracuse, NY BigQuan is set to give you a peek into Journey Of My Life EP.

That's the title of the EP he's busy putting together.

Journey Of My Life Featuring Tony Sunshine and Mr.Mig. That would be the name of the EP's first

single. But whatever the name, that single and the EP represent a

perfect opportunity for hip-hop and Pop fans to find out what BigQuan is all

about. Smooth melodies and grooves provide a musical juxtaposition to

the sometimes-hard content of the lyrics and their honest exploration

of the rigors of life.

Journey Of My Life is an autobiographical tune and thus quite fitting

as an intro to an EP that digs into BigQuan's Personal life and shares it

openly through beats and hip-hop Pop poetry. The song delves into

BigQuan's artistic success, his life making music and poor relations

as those who have unsuccessfully tried to

bring him down.

BigQuan has aimed for a broader scope this time out. By putting

together this EP, I was able to expand my ability of writing lyrics

for different types of audiences, where every age bracket can relate

to my music, he explains. Previous releases featuring BigQuan include

G-Unit Vs. Everybody Round 2 and WTFYWFF V1

mixtape, BigQuan's very own DJ release.

Laquan Johnson aka BigQuan began life as a rapper eight years ago,

spurred on by the loss of his father to cancer. Originally from

Brooklyn, BigQuan spent six months in Jamaica's Montego Bay where he

discovered a group of people who loved rhymes and became both friends

and musical associates. It was during this part of his life

challenged by his friends and rap partners that he decided to take

life including his music seriously.

When the EP is released, BigQuan will take to

the road, touring in support of Journey Of My Life. He's currently

working with The Power Group, The Number 1 Dance Music Promotions Company, based out of London, UK.
