Bio

Ulysses Guest III, (Uly, Big Uly) is an American singer-songwriter from Augusta, GA. Nicknamed the “Godson of Soul”, both his melodious voice and rhapsodic, street life lyrics channel the talents of the legends before him, including Otis Redding and Sam Cooke.

Raised by his aunt in Central Florida, Uly was immersed and cultivated by the sounds of Curtis Mayfield and James Brown echoing through his home. At 17 he recorded his first song, “Shake Dat Ass” and released his first full-length indie LP, Big Uly: The Story, two years later. In 2003, the young artist dropped a matured, soulfully street album, Story Teller, which featured the wildly successful single, “Deans Bridge Road.”

In 2009, Uly achieved his entrepreneurial goal and opened a restaurant in Gainesville, Florida called Big Uly’s Burgers. During this time, the singer began generating a louder buzz by performing at local venues and opening for mainsteam artists such as Waka Flacka Flame, Afro Man, Young Bloodz, and the Ying Yang Twins, along with his backup band, the Big U.

Now signed and managed by Guest III Records and Mache Byen Consulting, Big Uly's latest solo album is scheduled to drop Fall 2011 and features collaborations with some of hip-hops most popular artists, including Yung Joc.

"I think R & B has lost it's voice over the past ten year, I grew up on the same streets as James Brown, loving soul music. Now I'm just trying to bring it back, my way" - Big Uly
