We try to write the songs that should be written, but don't yet exist. We don't try to defy or adhere to genre; we simply want to write songs that we would listen to. We feel that if we genuinely enjoy our music, you will too.

Music needs soul the way the soul needs music.

Biography

The four of us began playing together during our sophomore year at St. Lawrence University. We're consummate music lovers, and have probably thousands of influences. Naming them all is an exercise in futility, and besides, it doesn't matter. Our influences will naturally appear in our songwriting, so we try not to worry about it. Overall, we want to be ourselves, and allow our individual and collective personalities determine our music. Music is communication and expression after all, and it's important to have your own voice.

On a freakier note, I personally believe that there exists an extra-dimensional space beyond our senses in which music and art live, fully formed and untapped. As artists, our job is to reach into the void and extract these ideas and bring them into the world. But hopefully only the good ones.

Currently, we only have five halfway decent recordings, which we did ourselves using equipment (some of it outdated) provided by St. Lawrence University (thanks Terry Dubray!). But we are constantly writing and rehearsing, and have well over an album's worth of material.

Lyrics

Take Me (We Are Big Whale)

Written By: Callahan

The difference is
The difference is
I am here
You are not here
Stay away, or
Come back to me
Make a choice
'Cause I will

Take me on your way
Take me all the way

Days are long
Days are so long
Now I know
But you'll never know
I cut it down
Before it roots too deep
But these seeds
Always grow back

Take me on your way
Take me all the way

Icebergs

Written By: Callahan

We're sailing out to sea
Only you and me
Waves are high and strong
And nothing could go wrong

I'm a castaway
On a distant land
And you
Separate the sea from the sand

But weather changes fast
You and I won't last
Suddenly we said,
"Iceberg dead ahead"
Bracing for the waves
We interrupt our gaze
And sinking to the deep
We slowly fall asleep

I'm a castaway
On a distant land
And you
Separate the sea from the sand

Window Shopping

Written By: Callahan/Sprague

When I was a younger boy
Father made me scrap for clothes
Two tied shoes hung from a wire
Man, I could not grasp for those

There times that I am sure
That our youth could never stop
And there's times that I believe
All we do is window shop

Squid

Written By: Callahan/Sprague

I'm hungry
Gonna wrap my tentacles around your ship
And drag you down
To the bottom
(From the top top top)
My garden will form your watery grave

I will drag you under
I will sink your boat
I will crush your sails
And I will gloat

You're helpless
Focused on horizon when the threat comes from below
So pop a bottle
(One last time)
Give a toast to your children
Pray that they never know

I will drag you under
I will sink your boat
I will crush your sails
I will gloat

You think you outnumber
But you've no idea
What I have in store for you this day
I will bring you fear

You try to defy me
See it's all in vain
I will show no mercy
I will bring you pain

I will drag you under
I will sink your boat
I will crush your sails
I will gloat

Oh, we will play on their graves, row!
