"Unsigned Hype"

The New Jersey native rapper Big Worm-born David Williams Jr. in Willingboro, NJ is not your ordinary East Coast rapper. Born the youngest of 11 children and 13 years after his closest sister, Worm experienced growing with a big family yet, at the same time growing up alone in a household with all of his siblings moved out with their own family. But, it is those holidays where the whole family would celebrate together that Worm credits to his passion to wanting to be a rapper. Watching his older brothers, nephews, and cousin all cipher around the house at times was what he looked forward to the most every holiday. As Worm got older and started playing sport he never gave up on rap, but after constantly hearing everyone tell him how he needed to be on the football field because of his size, he found another love in doing just that. Football helped Worm through high school and helped him into college. After getting hurt at the beginning of his college football career, Worm began making every effort to pursue rap. From his appearance Worm would probably be considered another punchline rapper trying to break into the music business as a gangster rapper, but once he begins to deliver bars you see he is nothing of that kind.
While in school, Worm sharpened his lyrical skills, started recording and performing at bars, talent shows, and fashion shows. With one semester to go, the birth of his son made him realize that it was time to either give it all or nothing. Not giving up with his education like other rappers, Worm achieved a bachelor's degree. Armed with a combination of street knowledge and a college degree, it is those two factors that drive him to separate himself from other rappers signed or unsigned. With his new mixtape/street album I Got Dat Product hosted by DJ Ophax, Worm is set to prove that he is not like any other MC. This first single Kokaine is just the statement explaining why he is different. Along with his hit Big Boy Dance that shuts every party down he performs at and 12 other cuts, I Got Dat Product is proof that Hip Hop's heart is still beating.

Big Worm - The Fat Synatra
Posted: Monday - June 23, 2008

New Jersey native Big Worm offers lyrically a unique blend of higher education and street smarts. Working on setting his own pace in what seems to have become a hip hop rat race at times, Big Worm has steadily worked with over seas DJ’s such as DJ Ophax and DJ Pimp. With the support of these DJ's and hard work, Big Worm aka Frank Synatra is now being heard beyond the regular U.S. hip hop market.

Big Worm recently released a mixtape titled “I Got Dat Product” with DJ Ophax and Makin Moves Entertainment which has been creating noise due to not only his grind but Big Worm’s choices to work with a diverse choice of producers and collaborate with artists who are complimentary to his style but bring their own flavor to the tracks.

With hard hitting punch lines, an assortment of speaker breaking beats, and distinctive lyrics, Big Worm is lyrically eating his way through the competition to create a new core to the game.

How long have you been rapping?

I have been around rap all my life being around my brothers, cousins, and older nephews. Since I was about 6 years old I started free styling with tape recorders and writing off and on. It wasn't until I got to college that I started taking rap serious and began recording. I put a few freestyles on a CD and let people hear them and they were feeling me. So I really have been going at rap hard for like 3 years.

What are some of your influences people can hear in your music?

A lot of my musical influence comes from basically anybody that has released music whether it’s good or if it’s bad. Like I look at how an artist put a record and people say lyrically it’s hot but no beats or hot beats but no lyrics or a good hook but lacking lyrical content. So I take my life, family, friends, and real world experiences and get lyrically creative and put it all to a hot beat.

Overseas DJ's like DJ Ophax and DJ Pimp have been showing you a lot of love on their mixtapes, how did you first connect with these two?

I first linked wit Ophax back in like October on MySpace. MySpace has become like a great networking tool for everybody. I saw his bulletin about an open slot available and hit him up. He put the “Big Boy Dance” on there and I passed them out everywhere I went. I recorded the “Kokaine” track and Ophax said the sh*t was hot and he put it on another mixtape. DJ Pimp heard it and felt the same way and put it on his mixtape. So shout out to both of them because they helping me a whole lot, feel me. Like as I'm building a buzz for myself here, they're helping build my buzz overseas.

DJ Ophax from France is hosting your mixtape "I Got Dat Product" out now, what did DJ Ophax bring to your project?

Ophax actually played a major role in the mixtape. Besides hosting it he produced the first track on called “Kokaine“. After the first mixtape placement with Ophax, he sent me like 10 beats. When I heard the intro the beat I knew I wanted it. The idea had come to me from listening to it and hearing a freestyle I did where I said "you spit crack I got that Kokaine they key to your existence." I went to the studio and told the engineer Speedy Singleton I need the hook to loop these bars of this freestyle I did and he freaked it out. It wasn't until I recorded that track that I thought of the concept for the mixtape. While in the studio listening to the playback of the song, I said to my n*gga Bake "I got it" and he said “Got what?" and I said "That motherf*cking product n*gga." I was like, I'm a do a mixtape called "I Got Dat Product” and have DJ Ophax host it. Sent Ophax the joint back to get his response to it and he was f*cking with it hard so then I told him I wanted to do a whole mixtape and get him to host it and he was with it.

Your single "Big Boy Dance" produced by Dombamino is out, how has that been received by the crowds?

Man everybody is f*cking with that song hard me. I have all types of people from the street n*ggas to 40 and 50 year old adults feeling it. I had girls in their dorm room coming back to me and saying they go on MySpace and rocking to it every night. I performed in Philly in January and I was looking at all these n*ggas standing around trying to look like they the hardest n*gga in the building, too thuggish to flinch at all. I remember when I got up to perform the “Big Boy Dance”, once I got through the first verse and back to the hook, I had them all smiling, hands in the air, and dancing to it. It’s a fun record for people to enjoy and at the same time it’s like a anthem for the big n*ggas in the club.

You have a very diverse group of producers listed on your latest mixtape "I Got Dat Product", from producers like Rockwilder to Major League, what makes you pick your beats and producers?

To keep in funky with you I don't really pick a producer it’s the beat I pick - Yoraps.com
