Bio

BIKE PROBLEMS is a punk band of bike riders who write music about bikes and problems for bike punks and/or nerds who like bikes. BIKE PROBLEMS is from Austin, TX and the singer has red hair and wears glasses. Ok, you're rolling your eyes by the first line of this thing -- "Hey! Dave Berman once said, "Punk Rock died when the first kid said, 'Punk's not dead! Punk's not dead!'" Touche'. My response: I'm listening to Depche Mode's debut album right now. Nothing more to say, dudes. All else I can say is we're just trying to find our place in this musical world of drugs, parties, bikes, pizza, girls and boys. WE are not at all hip, but we aren't square, but when we're not playing in silly 60s nugget cover bands and one off synth bands with our girlfriends, BIKE PROBLEMS is where two guys (bass, guitar) and a girl (drums) go to let it all out.

BIKE PROBLEMS is indefatigably about falling off your bike. More than likely it's going to tear of some skin, scare you a little, reaffirm your own mortality and existence, but it's also going tobe preceded by the pure pleasure of flying down a hill, running through the tail end of a yellow light, and drunkenly weaving around a slow car with your friends on a social ride. It's all about the combination of pleasure and pain. You can't have any pleasure without the threat of some pain, and that's a good mantra for a band like us. We live to live hard, but hell, we're no Vince Neil. We aren't a hardcore band --- we take no pleasure in screaming constantly about death and dismemberment or being too loud. At the same time, indie music at the moment and in the past 5-10 years is wholly overdone and just plain weak. So we split the difference! We combine obscure 80s hardcore with new wavey pop from decades past. We take the Adolescents, Descendents, DI, and The Simpletones, and combine it with Devo, The Cars, and the B-52s. Angry shit people can dance too. And bob their heads. We don't want to be hardcore; we don't want to be a new wave pop band. THAT'S BEING DONE RIGHT NOW ON RED RIVER AND 6TH. But do we write songs sometimes in these veins? Yes we do. Conveniently, BIKE PROBLEMS desire to not want to be hardcore or indie in Austin, TX is extremely socially relevant in 2010. We feel we are embarking on a journey not often explored in the Austin music. Everyone's either hardcore or indie, but few dare to create fun, energetic, punk rock music with songs about the government, fast food, and bikes for bike punks and/or nerds who like bikes. I feel like the only modern band you could compare us to would be Be Your Own Pet!, but we neither have a female front woman or have broken up.
