"Billbones @ crash mansion"

One of my biggest thrills as a roving music photog is hearing good buzz on a new band, then catching them live and they not only live up to but exceed expectations. This was the case tonight with one of my new faves Billbones.

A mid-sized but rowdy LES crowd stayed up late on a school night to cheer on the boys as they ripped through a beer fueled set packed with catchy Clash influenced rock tunes. The two charismatic lead vocalists Frank & Josh Bones matched vocals and riffs over high powered, driving rhythms on tracks ranging from Bloc Party/Rakes style delirious fun (“Breakdown”) to Libertines style mid-tempo wistfulness (“Takes my Heart Away”). By the end the crowd was hooting and clapping along in delight at the grungy mayhem.

Billbones are playing all over the city these days so definitely check these guys out soon. - Nev Brown

Forged in the cobbled streets of west London and cultivated in the crooked alleys of New York City, Billbones have arrived with a new, yet classic sound, and the sole purpose of restoring energy and craft to the NYC music scene. Soaring guitars, pounding drums, and vintage melodies combine to create a sound somewhere between The Beatles and a feverous New York summer day.

Mike Fleizach, Neil Kumar, Jon LaPrade, and Josh Hammer are the musicians and characters that create this unique sound. Mike and Josh met as New Yorkers living in London the autumn of 2003. Collectively they began to piece together a plan to unite the craft and precision of the contemporary British music scene with explosive energy and fun of the New York City scene of yesteryear. After laying down the foundations for what would later become Billbones, they found themselves unable to forge ahead in the face of lingering obstacles which needed to be dealt with. Both went on their separate ways for a couple of years, only to realize in 2005 that their joint vision was ready to flourish. With Josh then living in NYC's upper east and Mike living downtown they were finally ready to commence. It wasn't until they found Jon "The Bird" LaPrade, a master with the sticks, and Neil Kumar, a childhood friend of Josh, whose bass chops were ripe and ready to be heard, that the pulsating and powerful rhythm section was born. Each brought innovation, quality, and a classic beauty that finally created the Billbones sound that comes to you today.

All involved knew they were on to something special. After a brief hiatus, the 'Bones got their affairs in order and are now poised to unleash their first EP which will undoubtedly make a splash in the contemporary music scene.
