"The Hype Magazine Interview w/Bill Collectorz"

Bill Collectorz are an innovative New York City Hip-Hop collective consisting of producers/MC’s ED-APE and DJ Sireel, and MC’s Unibomber and Corley a.k.a Chinaman. Separately, each member of the collective has years of experience working behind the scenes with artists and producers such as Jazzy Pha, Midi Mafia, Baby Paul (formerly of the The Beatminerz), Scarface, M.O.P, Bilal, State Property, Frenchy (of Brick Squad), Ali Vegas, Poison Pen and more. This diversity of experience and style allows Bill Collectorz to have a unique approach to music.

The four MC’s come from different walks of life. They have different influences, different styles and different subject matter. Their influences span from Wu-Tang, Boot Camp and A Tribe Called Quest to OutKast, Mac Dre, Diplo and Fela Kuti. While they find inspiration in that diversity, their strength is their ability to find relatable common ground as a jump off point for individualism through lyric. Like a rap group version of the 2005 movie Crash, Bill Collectorz are linked in each song by an event, idea or emotion and then go off in different directions to tell unique stories.

Bill Collectorz lyrical and song writing style gives producers ED-APE and DJ Sireel the freedom to innovate. They draw on influences from all eras and sub-genres of Hip-Hop, and popular music in general. From New York style boom-bap, and Jazz/Funk influences of the west coast, to the big drum machine sound of southern Hip-Hop and EDM. Sonically, they represent the next step in the evolution of the Hip-Hop collective by blurring the lines between regional styles worldwide. They also blur the lines between the artistic values of the underground and pop worlds, while remaining edgy, hard-hitting and immediate. They have received some early recognition on with some leaked singles on KevinNottingham.com, Istandardproducers.com, and more! Their first really official single release “Breaks” is set to release this summer.

Who is Bill Collectorz and where are you from?

(DJ Sireel)- BILL Collectorz is a Hip-Hop collective out if NYC. It's made up of ED-APE who's an MC and head producer, MCs' Unibomber and Chinaman and me. I'm the DJ and co-producer. I rap as well.

How did you discover your musical talent?

(Unibomber)-How did I discover my talent?
I learned through kids in the neighborhood when we use to have freestyle ciphers in the street.
(ED-APE)-My aunt discovered my musical talent when i was 5. She would play jazz records for me and then stop em and have me to sing back the melodies to her. She was training me

Who has been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

(Unibomber)-My greatest inspiration musically was 2 pac. 2 pac offered a balanced perspective on different social issues. He had a great work ethic that every artist can learn from.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?

(ED-APE)-As a collective Bill Collectorz offers something unique. Each member has a different background, style and influence. When we get in the studio we boil all those different ideas down to a common denominator. It allows us to mix the streets with the alternative. the fun with the struggle. the underground with pop. the electronic with Jazz. and on and on.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

(Unibomber)-I had a deal with Universal and it didn't work out.

What do you want people get from your music?

(ED-APE)-We want to entertain as well as inspire. Being such a diverse group, we want to spread the idea of unity through music. Not by holding hands and singing we are the world or nothing like that, but by letting everybody know that its ok to like trap music and backpacker music and alternative hip-hop and emo-rap all at the same time. Music is music and it shouldn't divide us.

When can we expect some new music from you?
(Chinaman)-Right now we pushing our single Breaks in USA and Canada and Overseas and We're gonna drop joints steadily this year and next. Look for the official release our debut album Bill Collectorz 1 dropping this summer plus our independent stuff is coming after that. And we already have most of a second album in the clip. Check Billcollectorz.com for our releases and follow us on Twitter @BillCollectorz1 for updates.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?
(Unibomber)- don't know what my greatest achievement is. I'm not that type. Your only as good as what you did a few minutes ago and I just got finished taking a shit.

If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

9) Dead artist Mac Dre because I really liked his music a lot and Living artist Immortal Technique because I respect his courage and message.

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

(Chinaman)-I say Master Plan. Its off our debut. We all feature on it and represents all our styles.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know...What's your CRAZIEST "Where they do that at?!" moment...

(Unibomber)-The craziest where they do that at moment was when Picture Perfect set me up with a show at a police charity function and didn't tell me. Me and an artist named Cotton Mouth ended up performing anti police lyrics right there in a room full of cops. After were finished some lady comes up on stage and apologizes to the whole room in embarrassment. Where they do that at??? - The HYPE Magazine

"Bill Collectorz: Space Walk [Music Video]"

The Bill Collectorz drop these visuals for their track, “Spacewalk.” The sounds and musical textures of Rocky G. aka Ed-Ape, the man behind the madness, comes across as a mix between The Gorillaz and Tyler the Creator. This video is definitely a little out there but awesome nonetheless. You’ve been warned… - Kevin Knottingham

"Bill Collectorz – ‘Bill Collectorz 1' Album"

Someone posted this on the Facebook page a couple days back, and its good thing I clicked on that link. This album sounds like watching late night TV after your parents go to sleep; that sort of makeshift, random and creepy-cool vibe pervades this entire project.
It’s got some really solid, schizophrenic production clearly influenced by works like Funcrusher, and the main rapper, a disembodied, narcissistic baritone, provides the Adult Swim-esque feel that makes the album stand out. Fans of MF Doom should def check it out.
