Highly recommended album for the consumers of real American Music
Bill James CD "The Love Doctor"

Listening to this album I can say that Mr. Bill James managed to incorporate various sound and music styles which we Europeans are calling real American music. His music is changeable in styles, in rhythm, but always on the course of good taste for music and rhythm. Mr. Bill James is a drummer and guitar player, but he treated those instruments equally, making a good mix of vocal and instrumental parts. Highly recommended album for the consumers of real American Music.

"Bill James The Love Doctor"

Bill James is at least 56 by now, considering that he sings "somebody told me you can't rock and roll at 52" on "You Never Get Too Old to Rock and Roll" and The Love Doctor came out in 2005. While his age makes him an experienced guitarist and lyricist, his music isn't too aged for today's generation.

The Love Doctor is a homey, welcoming album full of original lyrics and familiar music. James is obviously a fan of classic rock, and it shows, without sounding like he's stealing. He cites The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as influences, and many of his riffs call The Doors to mind, mostly because of the piano tracks cleverly hiding beneath the guitar parts.

James's biggest problem is that he doesn't have the greatest voice. His lyrics are sharp and intelligent, but he almost has too much of a twang which sometimes makes him sound off-pitch and out of time. The female backup vocals sound like a choir and almost push the songs too far. With a vocal coach of some kind, James could probably find the right balance between his Texas accent and the right key.

Bill James calls himself "true American music", and that's what he makes. He writes songs that he obviously believes in, musically and lyrically, and he's doing an excellent job of telling the stories he's collected during his lifetime. James may have waited late in life to release a CD, but doing so caused him to release an album full of wisdom and charm.

Bio

I tend to be influenced by Roy Orbison, Chris Issacs, The Beatles, Neil Young and any bands that have a certain sound. The music is smooth and very listenable. I think the sound would appeal to anybody that listens to rock, blues or country.
