Bio
Jazsalsa was founded by Bill Summers in 2009. Bill Summers is co leader and percussionist of the historic group "The Headhunters" of Herbie Hancock fame.
He also leads Billboard Award winning, Grammy Nominated group "Los Hombres Calientes".
In Bill's own words, "Jazalsa eclipses all of my musical dreams. The band is comprised of the best young talent New Orleans has to offer. More than a world music group, Jazalsa is a “melting pot” literally and musically. The band personnel is ethnically diverse, with members from Cuba, Japan, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. They bring to the stage a new sense of urgency, an unfounded thirst for knowledge which translates into a “helluva” stage presentation".
The group began in JUNE 2009,objective, assemble the hottest unit in the city. We have created a new multi ethnic power house of musical expression, innovative, energetic and
danceable. It has always been my goal to blend all the planet has to
offer into an artistic and spiritual tapestry woven with golden threads of ethnic diversity.
Bill Summers has been very successful in creating bands that have gone to the mountain top. Jazalsa has one target in their site and that is the 2011 Grammy Awards.
Bill's talents have been expressed on projects with Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Sting, Michael Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Anita Baker, Barry White, The Color Purple, ABC Series "Roots", The Wailers, Hall & Oates, Carlos Santana, Cahao, Salif Keita,
Wayne Shorter and the list goes on.
