Bio
Film scorer, radio advertiser, hip-hop producer, touring musician, and singer/songwriter are just a brief list of the eclectic talents of Billy Newman. At a ripe age of 24, Billy has had over 10 years experience in the music business.
Completely self-taught, Billy has grown with the opportunities that have been provided him. When asked if he could write radio jingles, he said yes. When asked if he could do film music, he said yes. The fact that he is self-taught and still incredibly talented adds a level of soul to his music that professionally trained musicians sometimes lack.
"I definitely don't regret being a self-taught musician. In a lot of ways, I believe it makes me stand out all the brighter amongst the growing pool of musicians."
Some of his influences include: The Beatles, Nick Drake, Ray LaMontagne, Brett Dennen, Jack Johnson, John Mayor, The Strokes, and The Quelle Source.
Living in the Appalachian Mountains of central Pennsylvania, Billy is no stranger to struggling to succeed.
"There isn't much of a scene here in central PA. You really have to think outside of the box to survive as a musician. Even so, music has afforded me the pleasures of touring up and down the east-coast and seeing a lot of incredible places I might not have otherwise seen. Brooklyn is definitely an interesting place, haha."
