"Combining pointed and clever lyrics with an almost spiritual acoustic guitar, the emotion and truth in his words pierce deep. His is the kind of music which makes one want to quit their job, grow dreds ...and just chill out." - Record Union
"Exceptional. He had the attention of every person in the audience...Highly recommended!!" - The Note

Introduction:
Billy Rowan, a.k.a. The Undercover Hippy, is definitely not your average singer songwriter. His music brings together folk guitar, soulful vocals, infectious reggae rhythms, and the lyrical wordplay and delivery of a skilled mc. After 7 years spent DJ'ing and MC'ing on the Drum & Bass circuit, Billy ditched the decks for a guitar and started out as a solo act in 2007. Although he still does solo gigs, he now usually plays with a full 6 piece band, mixing fiddle, Hammond organ, drums, bass and backing vocals to create a high energy, interactive and highly entertaining live show. Combining inspiring, thought provoking lyrics, awesome freestyling and heaps of audience participation, it is impossible not to get caught up in the impassioned energy he generates on stage. Think Jason Mraz meets The Cat Empire...on a protest march...at the Edinburgh Fringe...
Performances:
From starting out 5 years ago playing in festival cafes for a free meal, Billy Rowan and his band of back-street groove pushers now perform at some of the UK’s best festivals, including Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Green Man, The Secret Garden Party, Sunrise Celebration, Ireland’s Electric Picnic, and many more. Highlights for 2011 include performing on the main stage before Gomez at Scotland’s Eden Festival, and playing to a ram-packed audience in The Park at Glastonbury Festival. They also gig regularly in their home town of Bristol, as well as doing tours around the UK.
