Billy Thomson Band

We are a groove oriented bar jam band, and we play the songs you love in a way you didn't realize you would love better. We aren't your usual bar band in several ways: First, we take our musicianship very seriously; we aren't a bunch of hacks! Second, we play songs most bar bands don't play. Third, no matter what we play, it has a groove. In many cases the groove is better than the original. In all cases, those who are inclined to dance, will, regardless of whether there is a dance floor or partner available. Those who are not dance-inclined will usually start shaking some body part(s) while sitting on their bar stool. Don't worry, it happens all the time, and no one hardly ever gets hurt.

The Billy Thomson Band was born at Leadbetters in Fells Point when Billy needed a bass player one July weekend in 2007. A mutual friend put him in touch with Edward, a recently un-retired jazz bassist who liked to hang out in dive bars. When that weekend was over they decided to keep it going to see where the project would go. One year later, after tearing up the Fells Point bar scene with over 40 shows, Edward conned his jazz compatriot Kent, a R&B drumming giant in Baltimore, into sitting in for a gig on Halloween night - the most magical night of the year in Fells Point! Infatuated with the infectious grooves Billy and Edward laid down to songs he didn't remember having a groove when last heard on the radio, Kent decided to stay, and at that point there was no turning back.
