"Bionic Monks at The Vogue Indianapolis"

Bionic Monks hit the stage like a ton of bricks, not letting any transition slow them down. They launched into an instrumental that was absolutely fierce and brutal. Guitarist Justin Herb showed such violent headbanging that we were sure he would have extreme whiplash before the end of the first song. Not having a bass player out of Catalytic made the basswork of Eric Herb and father to Justin, which is not something you see everyday, that much more poignant. Eric is a big guy in the same retrospect that James Hetfield is a big guy, and Eric’s bass makes him look bigger. Whether it is psychological or not, his low-end sound was more than enough to get your attention.

Taking breaks from their songs to do some covers, it was nice to hear familiarity from this Columbus, Indiana, band, but in context, their originals far outshined a decent cover of “Wish You Were Here,” dedicated to the military, and a less than impressive cover of The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” This not long after proving they have the punk chops to rip through one of their own songs with speed and controlled aggression. Even though it seemed they brought a proud fanbase with them, I don’t think covers were necessary to keep the momentum as a song like “Bring It On” was nothing more than simply kick ass. - Selective Memory music magazine

"Target Audience Magazine Rev"

Bionic Monks:

The Bionic Monks are truly a band of brothers. This family band includes members from young to old, and the chemistry is heard throughout each song. Their crunchy, bass-thumping riffs create havoc in each song. The guitar solo's remind me of Kirk Hammett, which is a big statement, but the talent is there. Add in the old school vocals, and the combination brings a smile to your face. There is definitely some classic metal in this family's bloodline, which is a great thing for this band's future. Reviews of their live shows have been good, so I see nothing but good things for this band in the future. Maybe need a name change, but that's just me!

"Band Aid Mag review"

Bionic Monks & Killing Adalia, Strand Theater, Shelbyville, IN - 7/12/08

We'll start with The Bionic Monks, as they played first. And let me tell you, they were great. The sound in the Strand Theater wasn't the greatest but it is most definitely not the worst I've heard. But despite that minor flaw, TBM had some great music. On their myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/thebionicmonks ) they label their music as Rock / Metal / Punk. I'd have to say that's a very apt description.

With Dad on the bass and lead vox, the older son playing guitar, the younger son (you guess his age...I was way off) on the skins and a family friend completing the quartet on guitar, they pulled of the mixture of styles quite well. I expect to hear a lot more from these guys in the future.

Bio

The Bionic Monks are a different story as far as bands go. Eric [bass, lead vocals] had been in the music scene in Chicago years ago playing guitar and drums for punk/metal bands. Eventually he decided to end his involvement with the music scene to spend time with his family. He still found time to write music with his acoustic guitar over the years, but left it at that to be a dad. His two sons, Jeremy [drums, 12 years old at the time] and Justin [guitar, back-up vocals, 14 yrs old at the time], wound up following in their dad's footsteps in his love for rocking and it didn't take much to convince Eric to start a band with them. Eric started teaching Justin the guitar and Jeremy the drums. The first song they put together was out in the pole barn.  That is all it took to lock Jeremy and Justin into a love for music that would only grow as they grew older. Jeremy has gone on to pursue opportunities in high school music and is now the backup drummer for the Bionic Monks.

Since then they have acquired a new drummer who has brought another welcome influence  to the bands sound. The result is a balanced sound of heavy rock riffs, metal mentality, and punk speeds.

The group has won multiple Battle of the Bands in Indiana that has led to opportunities to open for National acts such as Saving Able and Jackyl. They also have released
two albums that continue to get heavy radio play in the Northern part of the State    The bands lyrics stray from the common negativity in this genre and are both serious and silly in subject matter, yet remain relevant to today's culture and positive in influence.Simply put, this band's live performance rocks. From the very first note, they remain in your face and begging for more until the very end. Genre's ranging from slow anthems all the way to raise-your-fist stomping grounds, this band grabs the attention of every onlooker and offers something to everybody.
