Laura Birdsong

Birdsong Project arises from a series of parties and jams; friendships and mutual admiration. The band is a labor of love and a work in progress.

Laura Birdsong writes the songs, sings and picks guitar. She draws from life experience mixed with a little crazy wisdom. Birdsong was born and raised in New Jersey and has always lived on the east coast. She now makes her home in Montclair, NJ. As the Beach Boys sang, "the east coast girls are hip."

Bru Rossman is Birdsong's lead guitarist, musical collaborator, co-writer, background vocalist and late night sounding board. He is instrumental in making the music sound great.

Mike Ferrara is the go to bass man, and a fine six string player. Someday we'll get him to play slide guitar on a Birdsong number.

We have other incredibly talented friends, who will make guest appearances from time to time, adding to the fullness of the experience.

Birdsong has been influenced by every sound she's heard or imagined. Growing up in the sixties, The Beatles provided more influence than anything, but, the folk revival of that era was also an undeniable force.

Birdsong was surrounded by vinyl records as a child. Her dad played her Harry Belafonte, Frank Sinatra, Peter Paul & Mary and Show Tunes. Her babysitter bought her an Elvis Presley 45. Then came the Beatles... then came Joni Mitchell... But geez wasn't Segovia something? Zappa, oh my... Then someone took her to a Dead Show and then to a bluegrass festival....

Laura Birdsong is a singer songwriter who makes Cosmic American Music. The act of doing what she has wanted to do for her entire life makes being it a reality.
